Please excuse my ignorance but I have a specific question about the NP205 T-case that I hope someone on here can answer.

I have a rig I bought that has the NP203/NP205 combined t-case. I am currently running two sticks, one for the 203, one for the 205. The shift kit is also a lever style kit and since the t-case has been clocked, it is very hard to shift. After talking with a few folks, it seems as though my best bet might be to go to a cable shifter and split-stick the 205.

The first question I have is, do you guys think that is the way to go and should it make shifting easier? right now it is very hard to shift and I can't even get it into 4H.

Right now, as I understand it, the 205 has the following from the top: 4L, Nuetral, 2H and 4H. My second question is this, if I split stick it can someone tell me how that works? How do they split that up or in other words, what does each stick work? I just need to get that straight in my head.

Thanks for your help and thoughts.

One stick controls the front range, the other the rear range. If the rails are ground correctly you can't do Front Low and Rear High or anything like that.

NP205s are notoriously hard to shift, but it should not be as difficult as you describe. I suspect that you have issues with the linkage.

A cable shifter will not solve the problem, IMO. Your best option is to do a twin stick conversion on the NP205. There are lots of tech articles about how to do this -- One of the better summaries is here:

To expand on what GarageRat said.

You can engage just the front output in high or low range and do front digs and drive around in front wheel drive, or you can engage just the rear output in high or low range it will make driving around with an auto locker in the front easier if you do this, or you can engage both outputs in low or high range. Like GarageRat said hopefully the shift rails have been ground right.

Gotta be the 205. The 203 range boxes usually shift like butta'. Another vote for twin stick on the 205.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, it is the 205 that is hard to shift.

After some thought and research and what has been posted here, I believe I will twin stick the 205. That sounds like the way to go.

Thanks for the details on what the twin stick does. Now I will need to do some research on just how to do the twin stick conversion. (thanks for the one link by the way)

Cheers!
