So, when you split the NP203 apart from the chain drive portion, is there anything that needs to be kept from all that when mating it to the 19 spline?
How about the output shaft that from the gear box of the 203...Do you keep that , or is that swapped out too?
This is now a single speed box, right?

I have obviously split it apart at this point, and Im wondering what I can scrap, and what needs to stay.
Im hoping that I DO NOT need the 1000 needle bearings that were in the chain box!?

Thanks for the help!

chain part is thrown away.

All of the gear stuff you need.

Thanks Mace!

OKAY, so everything from the gear box BACK (everything in the chain box) I can ditch?
Still need the shaft from the gear box?

Also, its a SINGLE speed now that its disconnected, correct?
I was messin with it today, and its equal rotation from the input to the output.

Found Boots thread in the HC section and that was TOTALLY helpful, but I was still a bit confused as to what stays and goes!

I haven't broken mine apart yet, but it(front half) is going to be able to shift from high to low (2 speeds!) The chain part(back half) is for connecting the front output(no longer neccessary). The new adapter will mate up to the back face of the "range box". Make a note of the position of how the hi/low shifter needs to be rotated...If it is not changing gears (hi/low) keep playing w/ it.

FWIW I would keep the ditched parts in a box in a corner of the garage until you have completed the assembly. It would be a bitch to track down a small part after the fact.

Take good pictures so it will make mine easier!

Thanks Kav...
I made a dump run today, so the back half is GONE!
Needed to do some cleaning of the garage before I started ANY more projects.
I left it to drain all day to get it good a dry. Ill be abel to jack with it this week a bit to try and figure it out.

What do you want pics of, the break down, or the set up?

The whole swap! Just kidding. Boots has the only comprehensive 203 to splitcase thread I could find. I'm surprised this is not a more popular swap configuration.

You start the thread and I'll subscribe.

Honestly, Im a bit surprised as well, especially for the 62 folks where there is NO low gearing to be had.
Boots's write up will be tough to beat. That has been the most detailed write up ive seen yet.
Its gonna be a LOOOOONG time before I can even START my project. I wanna have ALL the parts in the garage, mated accordingly and ready to install before I start the tear down of my rig. Most likely NEXT winter. This will be the first winter since Ive owned it that it will be driveable.
Kinda looking forward to that!;)

I'm in the same boat...I'll probably start the conv this summer.

yes there is.

CruzrDave @ Marlin's has the low down. if anyone's interested

Color me interested. Email him? Does he have a thread? Does he have a 60 or 62?

Could it be the split case specific crawler box they have had in development for the past decade?

If so, not so interested any more. I'm thinking this winter, not when my 3 year old gets married. Who is this boots fella and anybody have a link to the np203 thread?

I heard mention of the reduction box that runs behind the A440 and it was tested by someone HERE on the Rubicon this summer. However, when I called Marlin this past summer, the guy that I talked to knew nothing about it. That doesnt mean a WHOLE LOT, because Ive talked to some clueless individuals there on the phone. There was a thread about it in the Marlin forum....Someone PM'd it to me.
Still, Im ditiching the A440 for a 4L60E, so I guess that it really doesnt matter too much.

I'd like an a440 to Np203 range box then back to my case. That is to much screwing around right now. I'll likely go 4.88's in the diffs and call it a victory. When the motor or trans goes I'll have no trouble with an atlas or doubler. Until then I'll just have to be happy. It's not likely I'll blow either up unless I quit taking care of them.

The mini reduction box to 700R4 adapter has been out for a long time now.

Marlin already produces a splittcase toybox..

There is no reason that you could not use a toy reduction box with a 4l60 and a split tcase. With the exception of cost.

It would be cheaper to pick up a 203 that will bolt directly to the 4l60 and adapt it to the split tcase.

YAP!!!
100 bucks for the 203 is pretty hard to beat. However, the adapters eat that cost up in a hurry.
Wasnt there a question as to how well the marlin/ 700R box would hold up behind the power of a V8? I know there was someone here that was running a marlin box behind their chevy gear, and said that he hadnt had any problems...I think it was borkenparts.
Would you happen to know if the marlin box will adapt to the 4L60E? I know 700R is basically the same, but there are some differences at the output bolt patterns, right?

I might have to re visit that route in light of the adapter costs.
