so i just got back in town tonight after being in St. Louis the past 2 days.

left the 60 up at work while i was gone and drove it home.

ran like a top, but when i started getting close to home i heard a "rattle" each time i accelerated at high rpms right before changing into the next higher gear.

it was dark when i got home and i don't have adequate lighting plus i'm exhausted, so i didn't look under the hood yet.

maybe something to do with the exhaust manifold???? or am i off base?????

if it is a stupid or easy question...well look at who is asking it so don't be surprised. :D

thanks for the feedback

patrick

Does the rattle make a noise before, during or after the relase of the clutch pedal? Trying to isolate if it's directly related to the tranny. Sounds like a heatshield rubbing against something as the engine vibrates more with the higher revs.

uh keep in mind who is asking this question....

patride 71 = mechanical dumbass

i could be staring at the fawkin heat shield and not even know it.

hey jackass ya sure its not just tools in the back? sounds like exhaust to me. i would not be worried...
its prob the last two marbels rolling around in your head that rattles at higher speeds :flipoff2:

anyword on Florida yet? Im sure it would be more fun making fun of each other face to face and you can meet the rest of the cruiser crew.

anyway just crawl under that pig and shake s*** around til ya find what your lookin for...

good luck bro,

if engine and transmission operations are normal it might be that something is loose. Go under the truck and take a stick and start tapping all the small plates and hangers. See if you can hear the same noise.Take the end of the exhuast pipe and vigorously shake up and down, side to side and see if you hear the rattle. Try kicking around the exhaust system with your feet and see if anything is loose.

it hasn't done it in the past few times i drove it, so who knows.

it seems to do something different everyday and is never consistent, so i'm not gonna worry about it.

i'm gonna be gone for a month anyway, so i'll worry about it when i get back.

what would cause a belt to squeak on a 62 , it only does it occasionally, but is annoying as hell

its prob. just out of adjustment..
