I just bought a 1997 FZJ-80 for the wife, and it came with a apc wiring harness, but we had high beams, but no low. Since it was under warranty I have the dealership look at it, and they said it was the harness. I think it was just one of the relays. So what bulbs should I run once I get the new relays for the harness???

thanks

Ryan Pics coming soon!

Thanks for the info fellas!

X2 for Daniel Stern. Get high/lows HIR bulbs (4 bulbs) and you'll have excellent lighting for upcoming winter and any condition.

Are these the John Deere's that you all had a group buy on a while back?

Got mine from Dan Stern or ebay, HIR is DEFINATELY the way to go.

I'm buying parts while I look for an 80 series. Since I don't know what bulbs are stock could someone tell me exactly which HIR's I would need to replace the stock bulbs? Wil the HIR's work with the stock harness or do they need a Slee harness? Thanks for the help.

There's a lighting FAQ that I believe will answer all you questions.

Yours should be labelled Toshiba. Be sure they do not say GE, as Toshiba are the newer models.

No Slee harness needed for the HIR's. My Slee harness failed on me after a day in Moab. Not sure why though. I run HIR high beam bulbs in the low lamps and the high lamps. I drive to work at 4:00 am and still haven't been flashed once for the high bulbs. FWIW.

Yes, GE sold the patent to Toshiba and they perfected it. The seller on ebay sold me bulbs that had Toshiba printed on them.

Dan Stern sounds as if he'd rather choke than sell a cheap HIR bulb...after a long conversation, his are better than anything on ebay and no more expensive:)

So my Toshiba HIR bulbs that I bought off ebay are cheap? How are his better? He manufactures them?

The guy on Ebay is selling Toshiba Harrison HIR bulbs, same as Daniel Stern. Daniel Stern deserves the business as he has kindly done group buys in the past for us.

The gentleman from ebay is a VERY fast shipper. It was out the door the day I bought it and received it 2 days later. Good service and good prices means I'll be dealing with again.

Interesting Links to HIR information. The first one shows those who are curious how and where trim the bulbs. The second 2 are tested measurements in increased light output between HIRs and stock. The last link is lengthy but interesting in that it shows that 'silverstar' high beams actually put out less light than stock bulbs.

You may have to cut and paste the first two as they won't copy over as full links.

first two links do not work, I cannot get any response from "shnu.us"
