Anyway i'm going to drop this and try not to mention anything negative about NC in any of my posts anymore. :flipoff2::cheers::meh:

Probably the best bet. We natives are sensitive to transplants telling us how good things are where they come from, and the usual response is "I95 runs North too you know?". Not used to hearing from anyone from Cali, but the same theory aplies. Until you've lived the life of a native NCian, it's hard to describe just how annoying this very issue gets. The state hasn't been flooded with transplants for no reason - we must have been doing something right in the first place.

I get your point, we would all love some better flowing roads, and I rarely have to deal with Raleigh traffic, much less Charlotte. But, when you live in one of the two biggest cities in the state, it comes with the territory. I thought the high speed train had really helped things down there - but I don't have a clue other than feedback from people who live there. The problem with NC metro areas is that we grow out, instead of up - a model far less desirable for traffic engineers. Everyone wants to work a good job in the city, but still wants that 1/2 acre and 3,000 ft^2 house and a 10min commute. It just doesn't work.

I can imagine that it might get annoying..... but Cali was also flooded with transplants (not just out of state but millions from out of country also) and when I heard stuff about what Cali was doing wrong I would listen and agree with them (if it made sense, and believe me there is a ton that they do backwards over there also) or just ignore it and move on. Here it seems to be more of a pride thing so people are quicker to jump all over someone for making an observation, no harm really intended but harm is perceived. :whoops:
Just not something i'm used to but I guess i'll just have to remember.....

There's nothing wrong with some healthy discussion.. I like some debating, and no hurt feelings here...

I'm not a native and I don't wish anything here was done the way it was done where I came from and I'm not offended by your ongoing criticisms of NC roads, wheeling, traffic.

For the record, I voted for the Either option, but generally agree w/ the group that changing plans a month before the event is probably not a great idea.

Out on this one and cali sucks...

Boys Im out on this trip saving money for cruiser. I'm talking the wife into the Dec trip.

I'm from Cali (Sacramento Area) also. The roads are horrible! Too many people! Driving on the interstate is like a big nascar race! The drafting is fun ;)

I think nc has good roads. When I drove I-40 from Havenot to Sacramento last winter, TN def had the best roads but the taxes were higher!

Besides california is going to fall into the ocean, burn into dust and they don't have any money.

Ok im done

That just means we're going to have a great turnout because everyone's known about this trip for a year, right?

I think Al knows me well enough to know I'm not pissed or offended or anything of the like. I just think we have a flat out awesome state and I'm quick to jump to her defense. I'm not closed-minded to discussions of improvement opportunities, but really with the gas tax as high as it is, and our contant battles to balance a budget, I just don't see how we can do much about a highway system that already works pretty well.

Hate I have to miss this trip, especially after the Harlan fallout. I have never been camping in Brown Mtn. and hoped this year would be the exception - but Wolfpack football takes priority over almost everything :) I know y'all will have a great time, so take lots of pictures. I just heard this year's leaves will be awesome, so I hope it won't be too late in the year.
