Here are the plans from Terry.

Hi Everyone – I’ve heard back from Scott Roberts from CNC 4x4 & Darin Touw from ONSC and so far ONSC said that they were planning on coming for this Saturday to volunteer. If other clubs are planning to come up this Saturday that is great. Drew Brown will meet everyone at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp on Saturday, November 10th at 9 am. The project is listed below. This weekend’s focus will be resource protection on Rocky Mountain Loop Trail. We’ll be extending / adding on to 2 sections of guardrail & putting a new section of guardrail up.

There are basically 3 sites on Rocky Mountain Loop Trail #92. They are pretty close to each other. Start at the Dutch John Trail of Forest Road 553 and go onto Rocky Mt Loop going south west from the western side of the parking lot. The first site is a little past the intersection with Dickey Bell Trail. You’ll see orange flagging tied to existing guardrail on a curve. This is Site A. You’ll be extending / adding to the length of this guardrail to stop people from driving around it. You’ll need 2 long (25 ft) rails & 1 short (12.5 ft) rail and 3 new posts.

Continue on the trail and you’ll go just a little bit and see the next sites marked with orange flagging. These are Site B1 & B2. At Site B1 install 2 long rails with 3 posts and at Site B2 you’ll be adding onto existing guardrail. You’ll add on 2 long rails and need 2 new posts. Uphill from these bypasses you’ll see a dispersed campsite that needs to be broken up and have the trash picked up from. Drew will have trash bags for you. This trash might have been picked up though since I flagged these areas.

You’ll need a total of 6 long rails, 1 short rail and 8 posts for these 3 sites.

Also, at the end of the day or if there are one or two extra folks that can go to the new reroutes of Wolf Den & Dutch John Trails we need to have the orange diamonds with the white arrows put up on the 3 sections of guiderail (wooden fencing) that block off the old trails. Put the arrows on them so people see the guide rail and know that a curve / turn is coming up.

Have folks bring work gloves & boots, lunch and water. Bring chocker chains or D rings to hook up the guardrails to your vehicles to drag it to the trails. Drew will bring the ratchets, nuts & bolts, hand augers, sledge hammers, rock bars, post hole diggers, shovels, hammer & nails, orange diamonds / arrows, etc. If you have extra tools please bring them along too. Some of you will have to help Drew with the guardrail & posts from Arrowhead CG.

Have some folks as flagger/spotters on either end of the project sites to slow folks down and to protect your folks. Try to keep a passable width on the trail for people too. You might have to have folks park ahead and walk back to the sites. Thanks a lot. I appreciate your help. Have a great weekend. Bye - Terry

Well, I had a good day up there. Got to spend a bunch of time talking / bs'ing with a bunch of us old timers up there. Old timers being the ones of us that have seen the changes up there over the last 20 plus years. Worked on Wolf Den and put our sign back into the ground. Also did some work on Janets truck a bit for her. Talked to Debra for a bit about different things / plans.

And figured out as i was putting the cruiser on the trailer the right front brake is acting up. Smelled hot brakes and thought i wonder who that is coming from. Duh, it was me. Got to check that out today and see what is causing that.

Sorry I didnt ake it up there darin :frown:

Thank you for representing the club so well!!
