My H55F is pretty much shot. It is behind a 2H engine, with a split transfer case.
Can I just buy a new one, and will it drop in? It has the 6 spline input shaft...
Help please...

thanks

Sure-you can buy a new tranny, but why not just get the old one rebuilt?

Hi Jan. Here is a thread from the 60's list that discusses prices and where to buy new. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=85506New certainly will be more plug and play if you're chasing the 5th gear popout issue, or if you have gear replacement needed inside the cast housing. Plunk a rebuild kit into the t-case, with a new H55F and you are golden.

That said, I have had an H55F/T-case rebuilt, however only proceeded when told everything inside was in good shape and in spec..

Thank you Greg!
I was thinking about rebuilding, but at this point the tranny grinds terribly when shifting from 5 to 4, 4 to 3, 2 to 1 and 2 to 3.
So I would need all the synchros replaced, and probably some gears. So I think it is better to throw in a new one, and be done with it. The t-case has already been rebuilt.

thank you,
Jan
