RR locker, too. I sent an email. Will go down and buy it today if I can get it done and it checks out.

Just assumed all 100s came with the 5 speed, but now I see that the 4 speed was in them like the Tundra/Sequoia's for several years . . . Lotta HP and weight on that 4Runner/Tacoma transmission :)

Just assumed the A343 is not as heavy duty, and more like the A340. Heard of issues with it on a couple years, etc.

My A340's I have had run much warmer.

Very impressed with the A750 in the 4th Gen 4Runner I had.

I am a "serial Scan Gauge" Transmission Temp Gauge watcher - - really have to be careful with the A340s in a weighted down 4Runner - makes me nervous on a much heavier 100.

Relatively "new" to the 100s, so let me know if the A343 is much beefier, etc.

There's nothing wrong with the 4 speed in the 1998 - 2002. My 99 is loaded with armor, 35" tires and lots of weight, it runs great. I do have 4.88 gears which keeps it from down shifting all the time. Without the 4.88 gears, I'm sure it would be sad but in stock form there's no problem.

I talked with the owner and he explained the maintenance history to me. Sounds like it's been serviced at Toyota its whole life. Two timing belt and water pump changes to date. Year old Michelin LTX M/S and new spare tire.

I decided to pass on it seeing that I'm 13 hours away from the guy. It will make a great truck for whoever buys it though.

I didn't get a response, yesterday. Too busy to drive down there on the weekday. :(
