Hey all,
Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Northern Colorado/Wyoming area? (Loveland, FortCollins area, or even Cheyenne) I am having some issues getting my new distributor to seat properly. Also gonna need some help with timing. Thanks!

Does the slot for the oil pump line up in the hole? It should twist left into the camshaft gear if it is all lined up. I think that the rotor ends up between cylinders 3-4 at TDC and you twist it backwards and drop it in starting from where the rotor is pointing at 1-2, since the distributor gear is helical cut. This is with piston 1 at TDC after the #1 intake valve has opened and closed. TDC can be found by aligning the bead on the flywheel with the peg inside the small cover above your starter. There will be two times the #1 piston will be at the top, Compression and exhaust. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_engine (The piston 3-4 position of the rotor is also when the spark plug for #1 fires after compression of the fuel/air mixture.) I cannot find my FSM right now for pictures, but I know you can turn the engine fairly easily on a smooth surface in 4th gear with the spark plugs out. :frown:

Don't run the engine until you are sure that is dropped in there though, it should not need to be forced and the flange like thing that holds it down should easily be on the block where you screw the bolt in. Another thing you could do before starting this whole process is to take off the rocker cover. You can then check for the correct position of the piston and closed intake valve and eventually observe oil movement out of the passages with the coil wire unhooked to verify the pump is engaged by cranking the engine over for a few seconds.

Or wait and find a mechanic...:whoops:

Since I am a DIY guy, I know how some shops do not specialize in these older vehicles, I would say "no, there isn't". I know of a place that sent the owner buying several items he did not need and the problem was never fixed. Let me get a hold of a Toyota tech that we all know as a member of our club to see if he is available. He is not online too often and will probably not see your posts for quite a while. Check your PMs... :)
