Howdy folks. Looking for suggestions for a short 6 person family weekend camping trip on the 19th-20th. Vehicles are my cruiser and a stock fool-sized Ram 2500.
Ive/we've always gone to the River, or north-east of Kingman towards the Hualapai res. and up the hill to Flag/Prescott areas. Now looking at something closer to Seligman area. We must be able to use firearms, as my 12 yo has really taken to skeet this summer, and we like to be isolated, so no campgrounds.
I've been hearing rumor about fire restriction here in Mohave Co. I'll need to confirm this, of course.
Any suggestions are appreciated. After 3 years, the :princess: has finally agreed to come along again, so I want this one to go well.

It seems I'm on my own here.

There is a place on Senator Highway. It is near Prescott at a mine site.
There are roof trusses made of steel. It is several miles beyond the end of pavement.
The canyon is deep and steep. Hiking down the canyon reveals some rock waterfalls that are amazing. All of the terrain is nearly vertical. There is level camping at the mine entrance area. It is a 1/2- mile hike to the level camping area from the main road. I suggest walking down the canyon a ways to find the waterfalls, and the rock grottos. There are places where the water has carved a path thru pure stone to create an incredible grotto.
This is an area of brutal terrain. I have personally found myself on the face of a cliff, spread-eagle, trying to grip the earth. I was looking down at a vertical drop of 150 feet, and I was scared out of my wits! This is not a camp site for the faint of heart! On the other hand, in the bottom of the canyon, there are some of the most incredible water washed rock grottos in the land. In the deepest parts are blue spruce that reach 200 feet in height, and are dwarfed by the depth of the canyon. They look like little Christmas trees.

i'm a liberal. i was to terrified by the mention of firearms to respond....

Yep, gotta think of those poor innocent clay pigeons, ya know!:D

Thanks, Brian for the suggestion. I'll be bringin little ones (and a 79 yo), wouldn't be smart to hang for dear life overlooking 150 ways to meet yer maker.
I live at the base of the Hualapai mts, and go up there quite a bit, but between the county park on top, and the wilderness/wildlife preserve (whateva they call it) on the southwest slope, no campfires, etc, we'll be heading north or east this time.

Might I recommend the Apache-Sitgreaves end of the Rim Road/Crook Trail?
If you head north from the Rim Road, there's lots of camping. And places to shoot, if you look hard enough. And I think they're still being pretty optimistic about the rain they're getting so no fire restrictions. At least not last weekend.

I just got back from a jaunt up near Seligman. Crappy weather for highway driving, but the boys had fun watching the washes run and sliding around in the mud once we found dirt. We found a dropped Muley antler for a special bonus. Gotta find out from the county assessor's office if I was on leased BLM land or state trust land, but def. signs of ranching goin on. Don't wanna make a bad name for wheelers/campers by tresspassing.
