Can anyone help me out. I have a 1997 80, 100K, and the oil pressure seems to be high as of lately. Above the 2/3 mark.
What is normal?
Should it be high when the engine is warming up?
If this is a not normal what are the possible problems?

Thanks for your help.

my oil pressure is all over the guage. Normal running in gear it is usually somewhere between the two middle ticks. During morning start-ups, it usually gets up to the top of the two middle ticks. At idle at a stop light it usually sits between the very bottom tick and the bottom-middle tick.

Hope that helps.

Check the owners manual for some good illustrations of what the range should be under normal and idle usage. FWIW, mine hovers a click or two above the second line under driving load and right on the first line when at idle.

mine is all over the board just like concretejungle's

when the oil is cold it is thicker and does not flow out of the user parts as quickly making the oil pressure high enough to reach relief pressure even at idle, as you are driving the oil pressure is high because the pump is spinning faster and producing more volume should also open the pressure relief (same pressure as cold idle) , at hot idle the volume pumped is low (because it is idling) and the oil is thin and flows out of the user parts quickly, pressure will be much lower at hot idle,

the gage on mine fits in with the above

what you see will depend on temperature, viscosity oil used, and health of the engine
