1. I live in Hawaii.
2. LX470 is at my friends house in the Irish Hills. Car is staying there.
3. It will for the time being be used as a pleasure vehicle. (Like less than 2-3k put on the odo yearly)
4. I wont register it here because its financially and logistical moronic. We have to do an annual safety check. And you cant register the vic until you do the safety check 1st. Shipping the thing to and from Hawaii for 3-4k round trip yearly to register it here is moronic.
5. My residency/DL is in Hawaii and wont be changing.
6. All that residency/DL/reg stuff will change when I get a job over there and move. (Hawaii, fun place to visit. DONT LIVE HERE unless your rich AF)

Already talked to the SOS. They think I should have no problems signing over the title and registering it there as a non-resident.
Provided I have these things - Title and Michigan specific No-Fault (The No-Fault in my state wont work even if I have Michigan's State Minimums or higher. This is something I had to verify with them just to make sure. So FYI if anyone has this happen to someone they know.
This also applies to getting temp tags for a vic purchased in MI if you don't drive it out of state immediately. You have a 3 day window to gtfo before a temp tag is needed.

So is there anything I forgot to think of or missed that you guys might know of?
Heading up there for the 4th and wanna drive my new toy legally.
Also does anyone know any good camping spots. Plan is on the 4th weekend, to go camping/off roading (stockish 100 series capable)/ maybe fishing.

Since you're jumping through hoops already, you should consider registering it in a state besides Michigan. MI insurance is EXTREMELY expensive compared to other states.

I'd recommend looking into the Montana LLC loophole, especially since you're already an out of state resident.

Already looked at that route. Cant do it fast enough. SD too.
If I had done this crap the day I bought the thing there would be enough time. XD

Check with Hagerty for insurance, they are fairly reasonable if the mileage is kept low.

Yeah, there are totally better (cheaper) options but none of them can be done fast enough seeing as I don't physically have the title as its with the truck in MI.
MT and SD routes are going to take 3-4 weeks at there fastest in my situation after talking to them. I gaurentee need the truck leagl with plates by the 1st.

But assuming I'm still stuck here next year, I will be re-titling/registering it in Montana or SD. Or hopefully I will be on the mainland and be able to just do this like a normal person and register it where I live.

Also I forgot to mention. I am registering it there because it will both for now be staying there and I am going to be driving it there for a week.
No other state.

Welp.
Made this MUCH easier.

Friend is gonna just have the title be under his name and insure it under his policy. (With me added as a driver)

Less hoops to jump through. He can now drive the thing to his shop to do the WP/timing belt/heater Ts along with most of the normal baselining stuff, the new tires I just bought...
Ones on it were 255/60/16 (30s) Spare was still the stock 275/70/16

Didn't wanna go this route cause I didn't want to put him on the spot or ask but he offered and said it honestly would make alot of things easier.

So this has now become a does anyone know of some good trails and dispersed camping and fishing areas.
We probably wont be going further than Oscoda/Manistee.
We may be "camping" at his aunts place in Oscoda and just doing trails around there.

What year is your LX? I register my 96 as a "Historical Vehicle". Plate costs $33 for 10 years. You can drive it from Memorial Day to Labor day and to and from parades and car show. I'm not driving mine in the winter anymore, and whenever else I go somewhere I figure always going to show my car anyway. This might be an option for you in MI as long as it is 25+ years old.

Its a 2000. So will definitely look into that.

Camping the week/weekend of the 4th will be busy everywhere, especially if you don't go further north. Your best bet may be to get a very early start and see if you can get a spot in one of the state forest campgrounds in an area that interests you. Maps of those are available from the DNR website. Might be some national forest camping areas too, but many of those are now on reservations. There are not likely (understatement) to be anything reservable and dispersed camping is iffy in most state/federal areas in the lower peninsula. There has been a major increase in camping interest in Michigan and I reserve sites I'm interested in a full 6 months ahead of time. It's a different story in the U.P., but that's beyond your range.

Yeah, we (I) made reservations at Ludington for the 4th as soon as they became available. Like to the second.
Was super lucky to even get one.
