I am having some noise from a 5 speed H55F manual transmission that is heard in the 3rd and 4th gear, especially loud at speeds between 30-40 km/h. When the speed reaches 40 and above the noise goes away. I changed the oil but didn't help. Anyone have any idea what is wrong with this tranny. This noise is very annoying. I almost started to dislike my Cruizer.
Thanks.

Its probably a bearing and it could also be in the t/case.

What kind of noise is it? Is it only when under accelleration or does it go away when coasting?

My poor english do not allow me to clearly describe the problem. Yes, the noise goes away when coasting. Beside the noise I can also feel some vibration. The noise and vibration become more loud when I shift to 4th gear at rather lower speeds between 30-40 km/h. After 40 no noise. There is also when the engine is idleing some noise coming from the tranny. And when I step on the clutch noise disappears and idleing becomes quater. If it's a bearing problem how difficult it will be to fix?
Thanks.

One more thought .. clutch bearing . ?

I'd say, take the cover of, leaving the tranny in the truck tho, and check if there are any teeth missing from the gears.
My dads 90 series made the same noises and vibration like you discribe. In his case it was missing three teeth of the third gear. I hope that you don't have the same problem. $$$.

Davaa ,generally there is not much you can fix with the transmission in the vehicle.
By the time you pull it out you might as well do a full bearing kit in the gearbox.
This means a complete strip down.
Also the t/case must be dismantled as well,so you might as well put bearings in there as well

I would say it is the bearings. The clutch puts some pressure on the gearbox and the noise goes away in neutral.

Can feel the vibration in the gearstick especially when you push down?
How many klms/miles

Thanks everyone for your reply. I will take the truck to a repair shop and have them look at it.

There is not a lot of information but it sounds like it may be play in the input and lay shafts. There is too much strain on the shafts and gears doing 30 to 40 ks in 4th gear also fifth gear should not be used under 70 km per hour as this puts tremendous strain on the internals. The box will have to be taken out and the parts inspected to get a clear indication of the worn parts. Have you drained the oil and looked if there is any metal fragments in the oil? cheers.

Is there any online parts store where I can buy the bearings for this transmission?
