no power at dashboard

I was driving around, and all was normal. Then the stereo power cut out for a second and cut back on. Then it did it again a few seconds later. Then it went out completely. Then I noticed all the lights in the dashboard went out. No lights at gauges, radio or AC/heater. Radio has no power, but the AC and heater still work fine. The gauges still work, but are not lit.

I can't seem to find any blown fuse and the way it went out/on, out/on and then out...makes me worried that it's not a fuse (wouldn't that just go out and be done?)

Yes, it was installed when I bought it.

I would say the root cause is probably a short in the illumination wire to the radio. There is a fuse for it and it's likely caused a radio fuse to blow.

It should be found before you rely on simple fuse replacements for the fix.
