I hope this isn't true. I guess all of us that own Land Cruisers will be seeing their values rise. Will we still get the LX and GX?

Initially this was dissapointing news but after thinking about it, I am not interested in any land cruiser newer than an 80 series anyway.

Still seems like sad news.

Marc - thanks for sharing this. It will be interesting to see if it turns out to be true.

If you scroll down and read the whole article, it says that the US will still get the LX (Lexus Land Cruiser), but that the 5.7 V8 will be replaced with a turbo V6. So that makes me curious whether the 5.7 will go away in the Tundra and Sequoia as well. The article made it sound like the change was related to fuel economy concerns.

Not that I was planning to get rid of either one, but all the more reason to hang on to my FZJ-80 and my 5.7 Tundra.

I will be watching for more news on this.

Until Toyota comes out and confirms, it's just rumors. I wish they would bring over a bare bones version or the 70 series. There's really a big demand right now for off road expedition type trucks. I think they would double sales easily if they did that but that still might not be enough to justify it. Oh well, I guess that means the values of our trucks will probably keep going up.

I saw the reference to a turbocharged V6 but I missed the reference to the LX staying around. When I get closer to retirement, I've considered getting a 200-series for towing capability while still maintaining off-road capability. Then I could tow a larger trailer while still having a good off-roader. I know it's a compromise and there are better vehicles for towing a camping trailer but everything in life is a compromise. A big truck that can tow well is quite a burden off-road. A better off-roader has limited towing capability. I'm hoping to get to travel around the country more when we are older, don't have kids living at home and then finally when retired. I could outfit a 200-series like Larry has done for both longer trips towing a camper for base-camp and shorter trips doing more austere camping like I see Jon, Larry and Ali doing a lot.

Marc - That sounds like a good plan. I love the Tundra and the 5.7 drivetrain, but it's huge for off-roading. The 200 could be a good compromise for off-roading and towing. I think the newer ones have an 8-speed transmission (I have a six-speed in the Tundra), so the eight-speed would be the one to watch for.

You haven't seen my "glamping" mode with the trailer I take it? :hillbilly:

I can only imagine. And your trailer is made for off-road use. When I get really old and soft, I was thinking of upgrading to something really nice and fancy that definitely won't go off-road (think small Airstream). The Jayco Baja I have looks good and the ground clearance makes you think you can go off-road. And then every time you open it up you find more parts that have rattled out/cracked/warped/bent and you realize it's still just a typical, flimsy popup that really shouldn't be taken anywhere more bumpy than a well-maintained dirt road.
