All good things have to come to an end, or so I'm told, and for the first time in 10 years I'm cruiserless...Ended up trading my 100 saturday on a Tundra Crewmax 4x4 LTD, made a decent deal and handed in my keys with more than a little regret. The 99 was the best vehicle i've ever owned..New truck is definitely not a landcruiser but its growing on me, and the 5.7 is pretty torquey. I figure i'll wait till I see a killer deal on a 200 and step back up. Anyway, I received a lot of great advice on here on everything from ABS pumps to Tbelt changes, and hopefully I helped a few times myself !

You'll be back. They all come back... I went two months back in '05 between the 60 and the 80. It was brutal. Congrats on the Tundra though, sounds like a nice ride.

I'm pleased to hear you want a 200, but until that happens you might as well be dead to me, Mike.

I expected more out of a guy from Mississippi..honestly...

I remember you had close to 250K on yours. Did you just want something newer aka lower miles?

Yeah, I keep coming back myself. On my 5th "cruiser" if you count LX's. I had some breaks between them here and there, but about a year is all I can stand. :)

Yea, that was the deal,...I have a few long road trips planned with my family, pulling either a boat or a car trailer with my roadster on it (bonneville), and the likelihood of problems on the road was increasing. A while back, the very next day after a trip to Gatlinburg my ABS pump failed and I had no brakes, not a big deal because I was local, but if it had happened the day before in the smokies, it would have cost me 3 grand and several days in a hotel. Last month after the 4th starter change I noticed every clip, connector and hose was getting brittle with age. Even so, I actually planned to keep it and just get the tundra too, but I have a few other vehicles already so it wouldnt get driven much. I know from past experience when something sits up bad things happen. Add to that the fact that I had no response on craigslist or MUD in the classifieds, and the dealer made a fair offer on trade. So to me it made sense .... let someone else have the experience of cruiser ownership.

I looked around for an 06-07 100 with low miles, but there were none around...and the 200s are still too expensive...and ugly..Still no doubt I'll get another Cruiser at some point. Nothing compares. The tundra feels huge and bulky but i'll adjust I hope.

And sorry to the guys I'm dead to....I did go by the car lot last night and visit it though..:D

Funny, I just bought a crewmax as well but kept my 100. The 5.7 is great but I don't think it will prove to have the service life of the 2uz-fe. I have the platinum edition on the tundra but complained to the dealer how poor the interior is compared to the 100. Yes the 100 is a bit dated but overall you can tell it is higher quality. Much less plastic pieces. Love that rear window roll down In the tundra though!

I'd have to agree, the interior on the Tundra LTD or PLT is not Landcruiser quality, but its all about price points. The tundra just has to compete with other pickups, not uber luxury SUVS north of 70 grand. I've already griped a bit to my wife about the leather seats, fake wood and the choppy ride, the latter may be due the 4x4s being sprung a little stiffer...but i'll deal with it, it is what it is.

It would be interesting for Toyota to market a pickup, Tundra or otherwise, based on the 200. Essentially a Landcruiser with 4 doors and a bed...Kind of like GMCs Denali...I know at least one tundra is running around with a 200 transfer case installed. Of course then that truck would likely cost 75 grand. Still, I bet it would sell, Some of the King Ranch models and the Raptor are well over 60 grand.

Kind of a moot point now, but how did you go about putting a 2005 Toyota Nav system into your 1999? Just drag and drop? Would like to see pics if you have any. Thanks and good luck with the Tundra!

It was a bit more than that, been quite a while back, but as I recall. I had to get the pinouts of the existing analog amp, and pinouts of all the connectors on the head unit, Then find and order the correct connectors for the back of the head unit, then cut one or two of the existing connectors off the old harnesses, and splice the new connectors in, Some head units require digital rather than analog amps...The 99s like I had never had a factory Nav system available so finding some info was a challenge at the time. You have to tap into the VSS and reverse signal wires in the FSM so the gps and backup camera would work. I added a factory XM module from a sienna van that was plug and play, and an eclipse be104 camera Then the little stuff like the gps and XM antennas, and trimming the bezel so it would fit where the double din unit was. It would probably be way easier with later years that actually had a nav option, I would think less cutting and connector repinning would be required. Some don't like factory navs but mine worked great, didnt look like an add on, and was one of the reasons I kept the truck 10 years.

I have owned Cruisers my whole life, except for what I call my Tundra gap... I also traded my 100 series(2003) in on a brand new 2011 Tundrea Crew Max... I was also for the first time in decaded Cruiserless, and it really hurt, no kidding... I was having Cruiser withdrawles and had to go pick up an old fj62 just to calm myself down(only kind of kidding:)) long story short I had the Tundra(which was super nice) for just over a year and then traded it in on a new 200 series!!! Never again will I go Cruiserless... just my experiance with being Cruiserless... Cheers on the new Tundra!!!

Good luck with the Tundra. I tried one for a couple years and didnt last long.. I was 4Runner starved though..:steer:

No doubt there'll be a 200 in my future...I had a couple of 4 Runners, and they're fine....until you drive a cruiser. Kreiten's looks awesome...I'll roll in the tundra for a while, for a pickup its nice. Timing for a 200 is just not right for me...lots of outflow at the moment...wife is finishing up her nurse practitioner degree, but not working at the moment, plus both kiddos are starting college soon, which also meant I had to buy my daughter a car last month...etc etc..I never ends:frown:

Given the greatly reduced sales numbers for both 200 Series models, I am beginning to ponder getting one soon in spite of the prices. In addition to decent bit higher cost of entry over the 100's.

Personally, I would rather get the color and mileage I want now as opposed to going on a going on a holy grail a few years down the road. And I really think these trucks are going to keep their value exceptionally well. Even by Toyota/Lexus standards.
