Hello,my 1989 toyota landcruiser BJ70 3B wouldnt start the other day following a sudden drop in outside temperature.I tested the glow plugs that I thought was the problem and they were fine.Pulled off the fuel line and was dry before primer pump.I am no mechanic but need to fix this problem quickly and cheap.Traced the fuel line back to tank,no kinks or leaks. The fuel line dissapears above tank.Any help would be greatly appreciated, thx

maybe there is a blockage in the line ( tank pickup ) .. did you try with some fuel pump or manual primer to pull some fuel ?

You rarely see diesel leaking out when you have air in the line, maybe some seepage but not much more.
You should be able to access the top of the tank and the fuel pickup by removing the plate(under the carpet).
A lot of them rust out around the fuel pick up .
The 3Bs also have a habit of letting in air at the primer pump itself when its worn out.

I don't think it's been cold in Nanaimo lately, but are you running B50 or more? I've been stuck a few times with gelled biodiesel in the cold...

Had the same problem on my 74. the trottle cable had rubbed a small hole in the rubber fuel hose connected to the water trap canister on the upper right side of engine bay behind air filter. I blew compressed air back through the fuel line at the bulk head and a spray mist of air and diesel showed where the hole was. Open the fuel cap first. Fixed the pipe, primed it, started first time. Best of luck.

I had a similar issue a few months back, the tank pickup tube was suspect and had a pitted section that almost went all the way through... It ended up being a plastic nut on the bottom of my racor pre filter/ fuel water separator... There were no drips, but with the racor out of the truck and a small amount of air pressure in it I could see it leaking... My factory FWS let me down the same way, but it took 20 years of salt spray and the bottom of it looked like swiss cheese...

The truck on the side of the road, thinking of trailering to a friends shop.Anybody know the length, width and weight. It is a 1989 Bj70 softop with 3b diesel 5spd.
Thanks for your help guys!!

I would get some clear fuel line used for snowmobiles (so you can see bubbles) and a jerry can, try and prime the pump with the clear line going directly into the injector pump... route the line through the window and under the hood if you have to... This can get you home... If your primer pump is fubared you can always open the bleeder and try cranking the engine over... You may as well try everything before trailering it... Unless you can trailer for free from a buddy or something...

My guess is that if you could get it running,it would keep going. You could rig up a 1 gallon fuel can in the engine bay to get it started then switch fuel lines. Once the fuel pump is full, some high rpms should suck enough fuel through ,or you could just get where you want on the fuel can.
Diesel is great for this because its not volatile like petrol.

They are about 11 and half foot long from the front bumper to the spare tyre and about 6ft from mirror to mirror.
Taking the spare off only saves a few inches from memory.
