No choke, no throttle?

My new to me 60 will ONLY start if you pump it 3-4 times, release throttle, wait to start at idle speed. If no start, repeat. Runs great otherwise, but it will accept no throttle pedal, and no choke, whether warm or cold. This is definitley different than the other 6-8 I've had...250k, no leaks, no oil use, no other problems...weird?

When is the last tuneup? Carb rebuild?

my truck starts like that at 12000ft... but it's jetted for 7000ft.
check your timming?

Just bought the truck, but the way it runs when started indicates no tuning problems. I have noticed the timing is pretty retarded, I'll advance it and see if it makes a difference, thanks

Timing is worth looking at. A weak spark can also cause it. Then again the old saying is if you think it's the ignition, check the carb.
