Nitrogen Air Tires , Pro and Con .......

This gimmick surfaces every year or two. Regular old free air is 80% nitrogen. There are marginal 0.0001% benifits to nitrogen, but no one driving a Land Cruiser will ever experience them.

At the temps and pressures we all experience, all gasses behave essentially like ideal gasses in the Boyle's Law sense. Fill with whatever you want from Argon to nitrogen and the performance will be exactly the same.

Hi guys, I just drop-off the LX470 at the dealer for the 25000 miles maintenance.
I asked the price for the Nitro Air and the service tech says , for the 5 tires $89.99 lifetime.
Politely I said NO.

Thanks to all of you, I made the correct decision.

Wow, that's a lot to pay for a chunk of the air we all breathe.

ive been told nitrogen has tendency to stay in the tire more than regular air. bigger molecules mean they dont escape through microscopic holes. anyone else?

the lexus dealership i work at put nitro in every tire they service. i dont think they drain and refil for tires already rolling but we no longer use regular air.

Bulls**t, absolute bulls**t.
Air is about 80% nitrogen. So the nitrogen molecules are exactly the same size as the vast majority of air molecule.

He may be thinking about CO2. When you fill up from a CO2 tank after a trail run, that diffuses quickly through the rubber and looses pressure. Air does not. It's already mostly Nitrogen. I don't remember my periodic table all that well, but oxygen and nitrogen are pretty close in size/molecular weight.

The best argument in my book is that the nitrogen is completely dry. If your compressor is set up correctly, the air is very dry too. Air is free. Air is available everywhere. You will still need to check tires once per month anyway.

Nitrogen fills are a waste of time and money. If you have extra of both, and feel like spending it on something you don't need, then by all means, go for the nitrogen fills.

The big negative about nitrogen.
Their publicity about not having to check pressures as often is creating a safety hazard.
