So up untill now living out here has been fairly tame. untill now... Sun: came home via P.A left nanaimo about 830, Rain...heavy, Wind....stong, Water level....Holy fxxxing s***! Aside from some lil flow overs by franklin lake (paved section) the rest of the road was road was ony mildly terrible. I got just ppast the Duncan turn off and BLAM i am driving in 2.5 feet of water just looking for dry spots in between the washouts. we had decided to take our jeep so it is only stock hight with 235 m/t's on it. well boys i almost swamped it with the wife and daughter it there, and managed to rip the bumper of when i jammed it into reverse to stop from going to deep ( it had a pretty god flow to it to). what a night, after driving all that way and being about 5 klm from the house. we had to turn around and go to the family in Nanaimo 7.5 hour round trip.... but i did get to Learn the " back way in over the caycuse summt" one of the locals led us in the next day . So what did i learn from this little experience. 1. Get a fxxxing snorkle, not nessesarly for being crazy but for a piece of mind that if i have to cross a washing washout or flood your motor will not die in the middle of nowhere sticking you n the middle of the water with your wife to scream at you.!!! 2. Communication is Key, if we would swamped ourselves and couldn't get the engine started again no one would have found us there for at least 12-18 hours.( truth be know that even if we would have had a snorkle and made it through the wash out there was a really big tree down blocking the road after that) so when weather is iffy we will alway call ahead. 3. I better kick my level of prepareness up a few notches!!
4. always bring the LANDCRUISER ( and get a snorkle lift and lockers)
I am sure there will be more to come....
