Came across a nice 71 on EBay in Barrington of all places. Went to check it out Sat afternoon and it's a bit more of a project that what I want right now but...

71 "from Arizona" with the original F engine and it's pretty much rust free. The owner feigns knowing much about "the Jeep" but is restoring a 70 Charger so I'm thinking more "dumb like a fox" instead of ignorant of what he has - He also has recently restored a 60. It has a bad repaint with the Freeborn Red poking out of a Desert Beige paint - the firewall is still primer gray. There are some bits missing - vent window pivot on the DS, a new choke cable replacing the stock one, the bottle jack and linkage is missing and the wiring harness to the brake sensors seemed to be missing, and the liner on the top has been pulled out. The brakes are marginal - one of the reservoir for the brakes was way low and after driving I'm guessing the master is shot. The truck has after market headers and glass packs and an electric Warn winch. But other than some surface rust the truck is clean - and it's local.

Toyota : Land Cruiser Toyota : Land Cruiser | eBay Fortunately the cow head is no longer attached to the bezel.

So.... if you don't mind a small project this could be the FJ40 of your dreams. You can contact Jon at 224-343-8840.

I have no affiliation with this person or vehicle - it's just not very often you find a nice rust free 40 in Chicago.

Hope someone takes it home

I find it interesting that he chose not to paint the dash but leave it red. It just sticks out as being wrong and detracts from the 'decent from 20 feet' look of the truck. Any idea what it looks under the diamond plate? Always a great way to hide rust.

Also, the front bezel is upside down.

From what I saw I doubt that there's rust behind the diamond plate and I'm sure he knows nothing about the bezel.

Seems a bit high on his price. 11k is about 6k too high from the ebay pics, and your description. Interesting tho to see one in our rust belt.
