Hey everyone...new to the forum, just found it a few days ago and have really been enjoying it. Shown below is a picture of my 66 FJ45. It may appear that it is in the process of some restoration work but dont be fooled...the tires were just hijacked to my FJ40 until I can get another set of BFG's for this rig. The engine runs pretty strong but as you can see it needs some TLC which it will receive in time, once I figure out what I am doing!!

My first question is the shift lever. It has always been broken and I cant figure out how to fix it. I have tried all sorts of pins, types of metal, etc., but they just shear off. It has been this way since I have owned it and you can see where it has been shifted with a pair of vice grips in the past. Maybe the only way to go about it is to replace the whole thing including the rod to the gear box. Havent had any luck with the local Toyota "experts" either. But hey, now I found this place!! Any help much appreciated.

Hey Kief...thanks for the reply. The shifting lever "housing" that slides over the shifting rod has a slip in pin connection to keep it from rotating. Right now it just spins freely on the shifting rod. I have thought about trying to weld something in place but that seems a bit crude. I have not tried to locate the part or parts other than through my local Toyota dealer, or the "big box" shops like CCOT, etc. The cruiser has been sitting for about 4 years now and I have owned it for about 6...had some setbacks that prevented me from doing any serious work on it, but now would like to get something going. It drives fine so that is why I want to fix the shifting lever as I dont want to shift it with vice grips. I guess I feel like I need to explain all of that because I am sure it seems like an odd place to start...it does to me, but it is more out of necessity. Anyway....thanks again.

Well, that particular part is so expensive that you're better off selling the whole rig to me, I'll hook you up with a more modern less klunky FJ60 or something...

There are quite a few people who get rid of there column shifters. Someone on this site probably has one.

Creature,

Post up on the wanted section that you need 3 peed linkage. Maybe take a close up photo of the part you need. People are constantly switching to floor shift. A 3 speed linkage out of a 40 will work too.

ps. Welcome newbie:flipoff2:

Hey merbesfield...72cruiser thought he had one but his was in the same condition as mine. So, if you dont mind taking a look I am still in the hunt.

Thanks

Welcome to MUD and this horrible addiction. You might check with Mark at Marks Offroad. He can fix that in his sleep and most likely has the parts you need. He is total lc guru.
