Yes, I'm making my first mod to my new obsession. I assume I will not be throwing alot of money at a head unit since it's a weekend rig for now but I purchased a wiring harness at wallyworld (says it fits 89 TLC?). Is there a specific or universal mounting kit I can buy that will make my life easier? Does the dash have to be removed? FYI: I'm not too handy...

Any wisdom, links to old threads would help. Thanks

no, you know the sleave the stereo you bought, you do not need it. when you unbolt the factory radio and take it from the mount, well bolt the radio you bought to that mount and put it back in.

I put in an MP3-capable AM/FM/CD player from a Scion, they're on ebay all the time for about $60. They plug right up to the LC harness, but the Scion bezel needs to be dremeled as it's a bit too wide. Otherwise, perfect fit!

You do have to transfer the mounting brackets over from the stock radio, but these fit perfectly on the sides of the Scion radio.

It's amazing to me that a 20-year old wiring harness and mounting hardware is still being used today by Toyota.....

Thanks for the tip on the radio, now what exactly did you have to dremel off of the Scion's radio?

Somebody replaced the factory radio in my '88 FJ62 with a pioneer unit. I would love to run an amp off of it. What steps do you have to take to get at it? My recently ordered FSM is in transit. For reals. Thanks for the info on the SCION upgrade.

remove your dash face then you just unbolt (4) from their. I have read that its alot easier to remove the dash face if you remove the steering wheel first.
