I just purchased a 78 FJ-40 with a rusty rear frame. My question is which years can the frame be interchanged. Am I limited to only a 78 or is there a range of years that will work. I'm almost down to changing out the frame and would like to know my options when I start looking for the "perfect" frame.

Sorry if this question as been addressed previously.

PS- If anyone has a frame in very good condition, I am interested.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think you would have a hard time finding a new frame.
I I got basically all the rear frame (rear channel, braces, and the gussets that hold the springs) from http://cruisersolutions.com/ Very happy! Mine was rotted out (only in the back) and now I have pretty much a new frame :D

Find a REAL good welder. I found a shop that did a lot of 40's when they were common... and rusting. Look for a shop that has been around a long time, and does frame work. If the tub is off it's a lot easier. Have them strengthen the rear end while they are at it. My costs, including partial floor to meet the Aqualu tub and kick vent panel repair will be just less than $1500.
