Just bought a restored 1970 FJ40 scheduled to be delivered the end of the month from California. Would appreciate a suggestion on a local mechanic with FJ40 cruiser experience in Springfield Missouri.
Several of us have use "Mothers" over off east chestnut and Prince but for the most part we do the work ourself. Would love to see the truck when it shows up an give you some thoughts on what you can and cant do alone. Most is fairly simple if you can use a wrench at all. IF not then I would let Jim work on my truck as stated above.
Be sure and let us know when you get it so we can check it out.

Thanks for the info......I would appreciate the help. I stopped by "Mothers" last week after a friend recommended them and talked to them about the vehicle. He didn't mention working on any other Land Cruisers but said it was no problem......I have owned Jeep CJ's, wranglers, and Cherokees) but not real familiar with the specifics of the FJ40, other then by reputation. The cruiser has gone thru a full restoration back to original setup, other then changing to a Chevy 350 crate motor (which has about 6500 miles on it since the restoration).....which is pretty straight forward. Once the vehicle arrives I immediately want to make sure all the maintenance is up to date...... The only other immediate work I was considering was adding a vintage air unit. "Mothers" recommended Don's AC for this. I'll follow back up when it arrives.
Pictures would help greatly with this thread. What are your plans for the truck. Trail rig, daily driver, Garage piece? Where did you find it and have you seen it in person? More info on the truck and yourself if you dont mind.
Here are two pictures. Arrives at the end of the month. Won't push for heavy 4 wheeling but will take it to mountains and lake etc and my fun winter driver.... Out of Northern California... been a jeep guy for many years (CJ5 was my first vehicle out of school many years ago).... traveled the country doing construction in it. Have had several over the years. Have always loved the look of the old land cruisers and vintage bronco's (1970 era) and I couldn't pass this one up.
Looks very nice. Also would love to see it. One of the other guys on here is a jeep first love. Still has his cj5 from high school. Gets it out once and a while.
toyota dealership is what i use for parts that need to be new i search mud for parts that dont have to be new, id get used to working on it yourself for sure they are relitively easy to wor on, but ive heard good things about mothers however they are more expensive than id like, aasby auto is also honest which is hard to find in a mechanic. i take my vehicles to mothers and them, if its more than i can do myself which isnt often they see it.
I take exception to this comment...I have been a mechanic for nearly 30yrs. I tend to think most mechanics are honest as they are dependent upon their reputation to earn a living. If you are dishonest you go hungry.
Usually it is those &$#$* who bring in their vehicles who are not honest. They don't tell the whole story or tell a wrong story because they have screwed something up and are to embarrassed to tell you they are an idiot.
Be careful lumping everyone into one category; you might find yourself in one of those categories yourself (see above comment)
