I have recently reconnected my A/C compressor and it runs fine ...small leak. I have noticed that while it runs there is a significant reduction of power, especially when taking off. I also noticed that although it runs fine, there is a loud whine/hum now. Could it be bad bearings on the shaft of the compressor or do compressors going bad do this? If it siezes will it do more then burn up a belt?

I also have an old clutch that needs rebuilding. Could the lack of power be due to increased torque with compressor running and a bad clutch coming out of first gear?

Finally, what kind of gas mileage are most people seeing on a stock 1987 60? I think mine is getting worse but I also think this is a clutch issue.

If I need to break this up into separate threads...holler at me please.

First of all welcome, are you by chance in the Coast Guard?

The Gas mileage question has been asked many times before, do a search you will get tons of info, I am not sure about the ac question.

like everyone else is going to say time and time again buy a Factory Service Manual
Again welcome to your new crack habbit....

Was in the CG once, now I contract to them. Have we met?

Have the manuals, but some questions are better answered from the masses. I know what I need to do about the clutch. The AC??? Let's see.
