Hi All,

Currently I have 2 vehicles. A KZJ78 Prado and a HDJ101 LandCruiser.

KZJ78 had extensive work done to it the past year.
- New cylinder head, waterpump and timing belt
- 3inch dump pipe and 2.5in exhaust throughout
- Methanol injection system
- EGT gauge
- 2inch lift kit with new shocks (EFS)
- Clutch replaced with solid mass flywheel conversion
Basically all the mod done were to increase the reliability of the 1KZ engine that was known to crack heads.

Recently I scored a pretty good value 100 series. It's a 1999 model with the 1HD-FTE 4.2L Turbo Intercooled Diesel engine. 4 Speed Auto transmission and IFS rather than solid front axle. It's got 335,000kms on it. Previous owner claimed that he serviced it every 10,000kms.

My usage of these vehicles are 90% daily driver and 10% light offroading (no mudding/deep river crossing).

Now my question is, what are the common issues I need to be aware of? I'm not that familiar with the 100 series and 1HD engine other than I've heard great reliability compared to the 1KZ engines. I'm also contemplating if I should keep the KZJ78, sell the 100 for market price (earn a bit of $$) and get a 5 speed auto 100 series in the future.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
