Bought a Trooper II, 1986 with the turbo-diesel engine. Bought it cuz of the engine.
The steering gear is shot, leaks like a sieve. I am at the point of removing it from the vehicle.
Do I take the infamous "pickle fork" to the ball joint end of the pitman arm??
I know I'n gonna need a big press to seperate the pitman arm from the shaft it has been attached to for the last 23 years.

I'm new this IFS stuff

That may or may not work. You may actually need a ball joint remover. Looks like these.

it finally came off after a great deal of pb blaster and a big
cheater pipe on the end of the breaker bar.
now the search is on for a replacement steering gear....
