I'm thinking about organizing a run for Wednesday, Jan 1. My daughter's fiance will be on leave from the Army and they both will be back in town after visiting his family in Michigan. He'd like to go do some exploring in the forest/mountains. I don't have a specific destination in mind but thought maybe some exploring in the Manzanos or possibly to the Jemez if there is some snow accumulation. Or, if somebody who knows Rowe Mesa area is interested in going that could be cool too. My goal would be mild wheeling, stock friendly, for a relaxed day out with a picnic lunch. Anybody else interested and available?

Great idea! Unfortunately I will be on the East Coast so wan't be able to attend.

Hmmm possibly... nice and easy is good for a mid-week cruise. I haven't been to the manzanos since like 1996

This is what conditions are like at 10,000 feet in the north Jemez on Thursday.

i see snow coming Wed, keeping my fingers crossed.

Where too? Rowe Mesa would be cool to check out but there won't be any snow...we need to get as much elevation as possible to find any snow. Top of Mt. Taylor or Jemez north of the caldera would be the best bets...not sure if if 144 is still open?

I'm thinking easy so I'm wanting to do some more exploring in the Manzanos. I've driven around the areas west and NW of Tajique, around to the 4th of July area from Tajique to Torreon, and up to the Capilla Peak Lookout and CG from Manzano. I'd like to explore west of Manzano Mtn State park and south of there as well.

If I moved this to Thu or Fri, anybody more (or less) interested? I'm just trying to work out schedules and interests of my house guest.

Short answer is no. Plan for what works best for you.
Longer answer is I cannot commit to anything, I’m at the mercy of my job, won’t know if I can get away until the afternoon/evening before

Well, New Year's Day run didn't happen but we will be going out tomorrow, Jan 2nd. My plan is to go around the Manzanos, Tajique, Torreon, 4th of July, and maybe down around Manzano State Park and south of there. Let me know if you're interested so we can meet up. It will be a late start, probably 10-11, and then finish well before dark, with a picnic somewhere in the middle.

Cannot make this, I’m all fouled up. Thanks for putting this together though, Marc, have fun!
