I'm ready to buy some new wheels for the rig and was wondering on what I should look for? I really like the black wheels, nothing shiny that I have to clean. I want to run 16x8 so that I can swap tires from my cruiser to my truck if needed. Is there a certain backspacing that I have to have and what is wheel spacers, well I assume they add space between the wheels and the brakes so I guess my question is, do I need them and if so, where do I get them?

Hey Dirtysouth,
Ive been looking for black steels just as you have, and the chapest ive found have been at Summit racing. !5x8's go for like 41 clams without the center hub. If you read the threads and do a search for "back spacing" youll find TONS of threads on this question, infact, on page 2 of the "60 series wagons" forum, RIGHT AT THIS SECOND, youll find a post with EXACTLY what youre looking for.

Most cruisers need anywhere from 3.25 to 3.5 inches of backspacing. there are 2 types of wheel spacers. one is a thin piece of metal that spaces the wheels out. the other is a piece of aluminam about 1 to 2 inches thick used to change the bolt patern of an axle or to use wheels with more back spacing. I run 4 inch backspaced wheels from a 91 cruiser and have .25 spacers on the front to clear the tie rod and calipers.
Hope this info helps and makes sense.

I'm the same boat with you dsouth.
I've had a hard time finding 16" rims with a 3.25" backspace.
I emailed a guy at the Uniqie/Cragar factory and he said the min backspacing for 16s is 4.25".
16" rims give you a wider viraety of tire choices and better load capacity in general compared to 15s
Please post any finds you come across.
I want to stay away from add on spacers. If I'm going to invest in new rims, they need to be goo from the get-go!
