When are you moving?
I promise I won't get mad....Maybe jealous.![]()
Every morning that I drive to work I have to cross over a low mountain pass (6600 ft) to the high desert plateau where the base is located. The plateau is populated rather densly by pronghorn antelope. I see at least 5 per day, on a slow day. We also have 2 herds of wild horses which you get to see occasionally. There are so many mountains around that it actually keeps us cooler than you'd imagine. And no humidity- dry, dry, dry. No friggin' cicada's or mosquitos either. Oh, and if you see a trail going off into the mountains you can drive on it. You don't need to ask or get a permit. Utah is over 80% public land, open to vehicles of all types. I've done a little wheeling since I've been here, nothing major- just checking out some of the dirt roads mostly.
Where are you from SLC?
some pics of the area.
First one is a copper pit mine. It's huge. I'm approx 2000 feet above the mine when I took this picture. It drops about 1/2 a mile if I remember correctly.
Second is some of the local 'fauna'. Pronghorn. That shot was taken from the parking lot of my base housing.
Third is the lawn of my new house. Sorry, I didn't have a full house shot.
