I just went to a local shop, Alta Mere to find out about tinting the windows on my FJ62. They recommended this:

H U P E R O P T I K
Worlds First and only nano-ceramic solar control film
High total solar energy rejection of up to 70%
Cools car interior temperature by 5 to 10 degrees Celsius
100% die free and metal free

Anybody know anything about this stuff? They want $450 to do the whole truck....

yowsa. that's about 2x what I paid to tint my 60, w/ legal tint (20% up front, 80 everywhere else)

The consensus on the board has been that you are better off getting the tint done professionally rather than DIY. That said, the price seems to be high. I paid $230 for all windows but windshield. I had another price of about $350 which was about market.

Price here in the sticks of East Texas is about $250--provided you don't have any old tint on the windows that they have to remove. I would think a normal tint 20/80 would lower the inside temp that much as well. Without some third party confirmation of what their claims are, I'd say they dreamed up some fancy crap to justify a high-priced tint job. I'd at least go to some other shops and see what they have to say.

I did a quick search and in other forums people seemed to be pretty happy with it. I couldn't find a lor reviews however. Apparently another advantage is it won't interfere with FM reception or radar detectors like some tints can. And we all now how our 60s need radar detectors!

FM reception comes from your antenna (outside the windows). Radar detector is through the windshield (illegal to tint it except in TX with an MD's RX).

I see these "incredible new window tint technologies" from time to time. When I've checked them out in the past they're no better than 3M & don't have the warranty or experience to back them up.

P.S. What Heartworm said about DIY tint! I've been to 3M school & won't even attempt it. Am a pretty good wallpaperer & thought I'd be a natural at window film.

Tint yourself

I too have tried tinting and will never ,never do it again. Peels, bubbles, cracks etc. even when it looked great at install. Get it done by a pro. but that film and price seems too high. Might be wonderful stuff but 3M works and stays when you get it on right!!! Just my .02
