I think I was hoodwinked by my brother and neighbor - in cahoots. :bang: After taking on the role of scout on the HITR run, I went out on a couple of rides with him - he was on his Kawasaki KLR650 and I rode his Suzuki DR250, the one he took on the HITR run. My neighbor took one of his 4 or so bikes on one - an '09 Kawasaki KLX250S. Well the last bike I had was a previous version of that one labeled the KE250. That was in the olden days, as my daughter would say. Her definition of "olden days" is probably the same as anyone's, before she was born - as this was before many here.

Anyway my neighbor decided to sell his KLX250S, so I bit...

Nice lookin bike. I'm selling my klr... I'd rather have the 250.

Nice.. I've been wanting to get a motorcycle... considering the dual sport BMW's.

R-series or F-series? If I ever get back into motorcycling I want an R-series.

looks like fun Steve!

for the BMW comments- my brother in law just rented an F series in Alaska last month. he was taking a trip to the arctic circle. 3 hours into the trip, this happened. he hit a 1500lb moose.

very well. he's back home and had the last surgery on his arm. doesn't have memory of the event. liver and kidneys healed up. moose died 20 yards from the accident.

Steve's bike should be safer. rabbits weigh less. :D

Yikes. I've been hurt much worse riding on the dirt than on the street. But I've never ridden anywhere that moose live.

I figure texting teenagers on the fwy are the biggest risk out there...

After Saturday with 50 miles in a couple hours on dirt ranging from forest roads to rocky old two tracks that hadn't seen two tracks in years the endorphins were running pretty high!

I'm with you: I love my K100, but I'd really love to have am R1200GS - GRRRRR.:cheers: Of course, even that big sucker is no match for an Alaskan moose. I nearly hit a massive elk in Alaska on the runway in my old Stinson and that scared me plenty.

agreed on the texters. some practice should help the anxiety. it's like learning to wheel all over again.:D

Yep - it's like riding a bike. Errh... I guess it is riding a bike! I've done a few more runs on it and have managed to not dump it too bad... Tim (my son) rode it a bit too (first dirt bike) and liked it so we bought him a SuperSherpa that was by some quirk of fate for sale in Albuquerque. I figure after he gets used to the Sherpa I'll either admit I'm an old man and trade him the KLX for it and just go piddling off into the sunset, or go Katoom....

Slim, sweet bike. I don't ride bikes but those always get me looking.

Ron, I hate to ask the obvious but I've noticed most BMWs are a bit tall, and you're, well, not so much. Just curious how it's working out for you. I had a Honda VFR800 and I think it was built for someone about 6" shorter than me. It killed my knees after about 20 minutes of riding so I had always hoped to try a BMW, maybe some iteration of an R-series, thinking they would fit a tall person better.

You are right, but the F650GS is shorter than most of their other bikes, and there are options to lower the suspension and the seat. It's one of the few bikes out there used by shorties. As it sits now, I can barely touch the ground with both feet. To ride it home, I was definitely leaning to one side, and doing the one-foot-touchdown. This one has the normal suspension and normal seat.. so I am working on getting a lowered seat/suspension before I continue to use it.

It is a 2006 with under 3k miles, and also came with the aluminum panniers, which I have in my garage now.
