Just purchased my first sixty, thought I would post a pic of it. I never realized how well the 60's drive, it's like a dream. Cruiser is a '85 and for the most part all stock, I would like to eventually lift it and put some bigger tires on it. For now I need to take care of some rust that's on the front and rear crossmembers before it gets out of hand. It seems most of the 60's I looked at had the rust there, right where the bumpers bolt to the frame and back about a foot. Is this typical of the 60's? It is for the most part just surface the metal is still solid. I figured I can grind off the rust and coat it with some POR. Any other suggestions?

THANKS

Welcome to Mud. I'll let the other experts chime in on the rust issues

Welcome..

I used rust zero black to paint my frame. Also wear a mask when you are grinding since it floats in the air.

If you want it to continue to ride "like a dream", don't be putting no lift on it... Mine rides like a lumber wagon.

Looks good though!

Tacoma?

Was that cruiser from Tacoma? If so it did ride nice? Smoothest one I've test drove? I have been on a search to. With the Seattle emisions the header and the rear frame rust turned me off. With luck my car will sell the weekend and I will have cash.

Invest in a good lift kit.

My friend drives an '85 BJ60 with the Old man Emu system, carrying a bull bar and winch on the front and some weight in the rear, I've never come across a smoother riding 60 series (a little body roll on the on-ramps but it rides like a Cadillac).

Even after doing my Spring Over, my rig rides way nicer than it did when stock.

Could'nt agree more. I have a friend that put on one of the Heavy Dakar lifts and rides like a caddy now.

What kind of shocks are you running? That could be your issue or you are used to riding in a car.

Grind down the rust on the frame, then coat it with a product like RustBullet or POR15. Check the vendors site, or use search to find info. I used RustBullet on my FJ55 with great results.

"rides like a dream"... man you have weird dreams. I prefer rides like a cloud of titties.

Yea that's what I meant. I've heard a lot of good things about the OME. I think that's what I'm going to run when I get a lift.

OME, but couldn't tell you more than that. PO installed. I think it's heavy in the back and medium in the front.

Add weight...

Perhaps the weight of the addition of a winch and winch plate up front would aid in a smoother ride, bringing the weight up to spec for that particular spring/shock set-up.

I have ridden in a few OME 60 series and all are not equal, all are quite enjoyable, however, different winch/bull bar/bumper set-ups definitely effects the plushness of the ride.

Yeah, I'm pretty lightly loaded... Stock bumpers, no winch. The suspension so far has been pretty much wasted on me.
