I am a proud new owner of a 2004 LX 470. I have been cruisin' this site for 6 months or more while looking for a LC or LX. Finally found one and absolutely love it. My initial plans? To keep searching this site for information and recommendations... This will be my daily driver and rig for weekend camping trips with my kids (4). I don't see anything extreme in my future -- just want to get out to camp and cover some ground that is less traveled here in Colorado. First "mod" (if you will) to come this weekend -- remove the running boards. I would like to get some sliders, skid plates, and bigger, more aggressive tires. That simple looking Slee front bumper is also calling my name. A lift is not a high priority. So...my first undoubtedly stupid question: At their core, is there a difference between the chrome and aluminum wheels? Unfortunately my LX came with 3 chrome 18" wheels and a 2 aluminum 18" wheels (one is the spare). So not only do I have hideous chrome wheels but one doesn't match! Can I strip off the chrome and have all four painted or powder coated or do I first need to get a set that matches and go from there? I have the dark grey LX and would love to get gun barrel grey (or some gray variant) rims on her. And sorry to do this...but am I better off just ditching these wheels and finding 16" on ebay or something. Thanks in advance.

The mismatch would make me crazy too. Recommend either plastidip or rattle canning all of them in a gun metal color of your choice.

This assumes of course that only the finish is different, not the design of the wheel.

I think 16" tires are a little less expensive, but for your purposes as stated I'd rather have the 18s

Congrats on the purchase. I could probably be talked out of a set of 16" LX wheels (alum) in good shape, if you decide to go that route. Otherwise, you should consider biting the bullet and powdercoating the rims you have. It sounds like you have a nice LX; go with a commensurate solution on the rims.
