Hello All,

First post on the 100 forum. Have been relatively close to Land Cruisers but most of my experience has been with the Turbo Diesels back in South America.

I have recently acquired a 1998 TLC 100. It has 150.000 miles and it has the rear e-locker. I'll post pictures of it shortly. It is in excellent condition, with only minor things to be done on it, most of which I am hopeful I will be able to work on by myself.

Here is the list of things I recall that need attention right now:
1 - Antenna not working: I can hear the motor running when I turn the radio on/off, but the mast will not extend or retract (I can push it manually in or out, so it's not a big deal). I read a couple of DIY threads on this, but did not find many pictures. Any help with this? Tips?

2 - Two rear lugs are broken: I know this one... easy to do and can be done at home with the tools I have. Question is: Should I use the Toyota lugs, or are there improved alternatives out there?

3 - Driver's seat lumbar support does not work. I can hear the motor when I press the button, but the sound of it is faint at best. Any clues?

4 - Bun warmers: Parts of my behind are burning! WTF? The heat distribution is very uneven, with concentrated spots like the outer side of seat bottom cushion. I read the FAQs and there is a mention of a TSB about this, but I'm not sure I understand what to expect... Is Toyota supposed to fix this? Even in a 16 year old truck?

5 - Storage pockets part numbers? I'm looking for the P/N for the pocket ahead of the shifter, and for the one that goes to the right of the Fan Speed selector knob.

6 - Headlights are a bit dim. Lens are not corroded/opaque, but it would seem the bulbs are "tired". I was thinking I could upgrade bulbs to HID, but the result is usually not too great. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any and all help with these issues.
Andres

Here is the list of things I recall that need attention right now:
1 - Antenna not working: You can buy a new antenna fairly cheaply and thread it into the motor. A search on this site will help. However, I did it and it's just not that sturdy. My sincere advice is to yank the motor and go with a replacement antenna that is stationary, ie doesn't retract. The retractable antennas are too flimsy.

4 - Bun warmers: See Metric TLC for a replacement part. Or the user name Aatlas1x

6 - Headlights are a bit dim. Replace them (just the bulbs) with the Phillips high and low beam. I believe they are 9011/12. See

I have replacement bulbs for sale!

Before I answer, may I ask if you are a River Plate fan?
Nah, I follow the Champion of Champions... Libertadores Cups is what counts.

Thanks for your answers. I will see about updating seat warmers and the antenna.

On bulbs, I will do some research to see what is out there.

Hey El Cid, do you know of a fixed antenna that fits the LC/LX? I can't really find one. I just got a '07 LX last week and my number 1 pet peeve is that the antenna is constantly going up & down, I'm convinced that it will be the first thing to break and want to preemptively replace it.

Craven speed makes a stubby for the FJC & the 4runner but not for the LC...

Any suggestions?

Thx!

I would recommend you Use Toyota wheel studs if at all possible. I bought aftermarket studs that didn't fit properly.

LCnewb- that site has listed for 1999-2014 tundra for a stubby. And I'm pretty sure when members have been going fixed antenna, they've been using tundra masts. Point being.... Tundra stubby might work?

I was referred to the Tundra fixed mast, so I feel confident that will work, but I know there are some other options. I'm on the road but let me look and post when I get to my PC..

Essentially, there is a mount that is detachable. It involves removing all of the mount attached to the vehicle body and then there is a mast that pops on and off from that.

Hey guys, Thx for heads up on the Tundra mast, hadn't thought of that. I'm about to go deep on getting my 60k service done at an indie here in new orleans, I may grab one of those tundra stubbys and see if my guy can throw it in the service mix for me.

RE my 60k service... (BTW I'm really sorry to beat this dead horse of the 60k service...ahem...)

I've got the 60k schedule from the manual (screenshot attached here) and I'm assuming that my indie can and needs to do all of these things. Anything you guys would recommend beyond these?

As a note the truck was meticulously serviced at dealer by the PO until 56k, even had a 55k service but no 60k service... I got it last week and it's got 77k, so it's actually pretty late for the 60k... (unless he had it done but not at dealer, seems unlikely tho).

And lastly, do you guys think that 77k is too early for the timing belt service? I may get that done at upcoming 60k service just for peace of mind.

Thx for all the help! I'm really digging this forum and i'm out right in love with my LX...

BTW, wanted to add that dealership wants $1100.00 for 60k service and another g just for timing belt.... ummmm.... yea.... :hmm::hmm::hmm:

Just spoke to local Toy dealer, they're asking $660.00 for 60k service BUT the service guy 'didn't know' if they could do the AHC fluid service, i had to get him a toy part number on the fluid... Figuring they'll charge and extra $100 or so for that... Do you guys think it's worth it to go to the Toy dealer Vs. a local indie? (real nice/honest guy but not too too modern, says anything after 2010, he has computer access issues w/ ((my truck is an '07). Thx! -LCnewb
