Hi All,

Picked her up a little while ago as a family hauler now that we have a little one. Has 173k mi on the clock, just did the valve cover gaskets, plugs and heater Ts. Wanted to say thanks for all the info here!

Replaced the plugs with Denso's while I was doing the vc gaskets since I couldn't find any records of them being changed. Old ones didn't seem that bad to me, and definitely weren't original.

Heater Ts were in ok shape. One was worse then the other and had a tiny piece come off. Maybe it was because I did these right after the vc gaskets and they didn't break into a bunch of pieces but I didn't find them all that difficult to do. Just used small part of pliers and wet the hoses first so the clamps would slide a little easier.

Anyway hope to be around for a while, continue to baseline and maybe get into a mild build eventually.

Welcome. Smart move on the heater T replacement! Nice photo of the truck. What year?

Definitely a smart move on the heater Ts. If your radiator is an original, it will turn the same brown color as it gets brittle.

The plugs looks to have some miles on them. Does the terminal end of the spark plug have a yellow triangle or cross?

Is the browning of the radiator a sign to replace it?

No, triangle or cross that I recall. Would that indicate they were original?

Awesome, I am market for 2001 as well, may I ask how much did you pay for yours? I have found one locally (DC area), but the guy has absolutely no records of any kind and the truck has 180k miles. I am hobbyist mechanic, and do most of the maintenance on my 2 cars (Mercedes Benz). If I do get it at decent price then I am planning to replace following.

1. Heater T's
2. Timing Belt + water pump kit
3. All the fluids, transmission, t-case, front and rear diff, brake fluid and AHC fluid.
4. Spark plugs

Let me know your thoughts.

11k w/ good dealer maintenance records up until about 130k mi and major maintenance items since. Also, no sales tax in NV. Previous owner seemed like he liked to keep things clean so while there are some typical cosmetic issues it was pretty good to go. Very minimal rust, came from the California central valley.

Seems like you're on the right track with your maintenance items. I would make sure you are able to start it on a cold day to check the exhaust manifolds. Probably not an issue this time of year, but once winter hit and the temp dropped I've noticed a little leak for the first few minutes in the morning. Luckily it is the passenger side, drivers side was already done about 30k mi ago. Although I wouldn't mind some DT headers...

You may also want to check the valve cover gaskets while your doing the spark plugs. At least to ensure the bolts are snug. Mine were actively leaking and basically just broke apart when I pulled them off. Not much deeper if your going in to do the plugs already.
