New to me... 1999 Landcruiser low miles ( family owned) performance questions

For someone who doesn't want to google VVTI: VVTI is Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence, it is Toyota's version of Honda VTEC/BMW VANOS and stuff, it allows the engine to produce more power over it's rev range (as our engine, the 2UZ-FE is built for low end torque).

I really don't believe those figures for the 0-60 times, my '05 LX did it (timed, real world, 70F outside with warm tires) in 10.7 seconds. We have a '10 LX570, which is hilariously more powerful than the 470, and as such, I do believe that 6.5 figure.

Looks like I'm screwed unless I spend more $ than I can afford, how about some shocks to replace the originals that will solve the pitch and yaw problem

This rig is not known for its speed or agility. My suggestion would be not to mess with the engine or the ride.
However, you will enjoy its reliability for a long time.

What size tires do you have and do they have the correct pressure? Factory Toyota shocks are a good bang for the buck if you don't put a lift on the truck.

What you're describing is not anything like the ride and handling on a normal Land Cruiser. As performance goes I never expected it to be a rocket but it is very acceptable in stock form. It does everything well except mpg.

A 99 is one of the best 100 Land Cruisers built. Only needs a few modifications to bring it up to a desirable level of performance. Don't forget it's a Land Cruiser and the worst of them are better than just about all others. Tuff as nails. Wouldn't trade mine for anything.

What are these few modifications???

I have a 99 I've driven since new, while not fast I would not call it a pig, it gets out of its own way without a lot of trouble. Even now with all the extra weight it is fine on the hwy, getting on the freeway, whatever. More ponies would be nice but not that important. it is never going to be as fast as an empty pick up, too much weight. If you want fast drive car, a very fast car that is what I do when in a hurry.

Dude,
You scored an LC with 35,000 miles without some shady provenance. I would be so stoked to have that few miles.
As astutely noted above, forced induction is needed to make any meaningful change.
Went from an Infiniti M45 and I really do not miss the speed these days.
I got mine with 70,000 miles in April 2013 and thought that was lowish.
Congrats,
Jack

I got my '99 with 78k couple of years ago. Felt heavy, but compared to my expedition ready '97 with the 1FZ 6 cylinder, not too slow. I put on the DT headers and cat back exhaust, added the TRD Supecharger, Old Man Emu torsion bars up front and Slee medium lift springs in the back, radflo shocks all the way around, and finally regeared it to 4.88 diffs for the 33-34" tires I run. It feels reasonably quick, I could drive it for another 5 years with no complaints, but it will never be mistaken for a sports car.
On this vehicle, the only one of the mods I would do differently would be to specify the radflo shocks shimmed for a "after the build is done" heavier weight, since with slee bumpers and swing outs, bed kit and warn winch, dual batteries and armor plates underneath, the shocks feel plush with two persons in it, but undershocked with four persons or extra gear.

Nice job on scoring your truck,
If you want performance you shouldn’t have gotten a landcruiser .
I think you should sell your truck and get Subaru forester with turbo charger :grinpimp:

What tends to happen is that you sacrifice reliability for performance (as expected). If you really are looking for a "fast" SUV, there are plenty of options out there: Mercedes G550/G63 or a Range Rover Supercharged, but when you're out on the trail and something goes wrong leading to you being towed out, that's just what you expect from something like those trucks.

Honestly though, if you have the funds, a UZJ200 will be your best bet for a compromise between power and reliability. The TRD supercharger is simply too rare/too expensive to justify as a bolt on modification (unless you find one from some dude who has a recent take-off)

I like to think of it like this: Yes, they may beat me to 60 mph, but there's nothing like having a hilarious amount of bottom-end torque.
