Hi,

I picked up the '78 yellow Arizona FJ40 that was for sale on here at the start of the year and had it shipped home (Halton hills). Because it's a southern car the rust situation is pretty good, however it is still going to need work to get it where I want it.

I wanted to make a post to introduce myself and at the same time ask for some advice on how to start acquiring the parts needed.

The car has 33" x 12.50 mudding wheels on it, and I want to try to trade them for stock wheels/sell them. I'm not sure if I should post it here or in the main classified section. This site is so wide spread geographically.

The same thing goes for wanting to find parts. Should I post WTB's here or in the main classifieds section?

I know some forums are very particular with where you post things and I don't want to disrupt that. ;P

Thank you.

Hi Bujbot,

An Arizona Cruiser! Wow... congratulations, lots of envy here. Nicccce Frame!

Like you I am local and am a member of Mud, 3 years now, but not this club as I am not wheeling yet and will be some time yet before I offer to join as my trucks and garage are both works in progress.

So what I am saying is that there is local talent and resourses. You know the sites on mud and vendors and ebay etc, but the real cost is shipping and duty, so actual price variations are sometimes less important.

I see good stuff available at times at this 'clubhouse', but nothing like the main pages.

I think if you post specific items wanted, and even join the club, you may get good local results

One tip I was given was to get the vehicle appraised before I did any work on it as the Ministry of Transportation requires an appraisal on vehicles over 25 years for registration. Otherwise you will be paying tax on its restored value...ouch.
My appraisal cost $100.

From what I can tell, Wayne (crushers) is a great source of help and used parts when available... but he is notorious for getting a free breakfast or coffee out of it, should you make the pilgrimage there!

And bonus, good things are said about Akella for new parts and that is the direction I have turned to, and he is in London, just down the corridor from you!

All the best on your truck, and since I am the slowest 'round here getting things done I'm sure I will be looking for your experienced advice soon.

Cheers, Geoffrey

Welcome Bujbot!

Geoff, nice to meet you. I hear what you are saying about selling stuff/buying off the main page. That's why I started here, I'd rather deal with people I can drive to to pick up parts. Meeting the community etc. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it all in mind. I'm not sure if I need an appraisal with an imported car (keeping fingers crossed). I paid GST and duty when it crossed the border and will apparently pay the PST when I register the title to my name, all based on the declared value.

Brad, you are pretty close by! I'll send you a pm and will definitely be in touch when I run into questions. Thanks!
