Finally got my new tires installed on Friday. Went back with the NTG's in a 315. They look great and actually improved the ride.
Now for the bad news. While installing the new tires, it was pointed out that there was play in the front wheel bearings. I guess the play is accentuated by the extra size of the tire because I didn't notice with the 285's. Still, there is no noticeable play in the steering , or any wobble to speak of.
I would guess that it wouldn't make much sense to replace the bearings without doing a full axle service while I have it apart. Problem is, now just isn't the best time to get into a big project on my DD.
Is there any possibility of tightening the bearings to get by till a better time to do the full service, or is it a huge problem to put it off?

Well you can't just ignore the loose bearings or larger problems will arise. Go ahead and tighten them but keep a check on them to make sure that they're staying tight.

I once did front axle service on a FJ60 and forgot to bend the tabs on one of the lock washers. 500 miles later I had to replace the spindle, locking hub, axle stub, wheel bearings....you get the idea.

check to make sure they are actually loose first - jack the tire off the ground and check for play at 12 and 6 oclock. If they are loose I would just tighten them up and not worry about it. If it has been a while since you regreased the wheel bearings you might want to do that but you shouldn't need to replace them just because they are a little loose.

Teaser cell phone pic. Will post better pic later
