Hi everyone, I just recently purchased some LTX MS Michelin tires for my LX450 and during the installation the tire guys said that the wheels were warped. Is this possible? If so, any idea on a good replace wheel for the ones I have?

They are probably ok,just under trained staff, take them somewhere to be evaluated.2 cents Mike

The stock cast Lexus wheels? How do you warp a cast wheel? And more than 1? Talk to the store management.

Hey guys, yes its the stock Lexus LX450 wheels. I'm not familiar with wheels at all...can you explain your comment of cast wheels?

I thought they were forged wheels, but even so, It makes "warped" ones extremely unlikely.

It is my understanding that cast wheels do not bend or warp. The main advantage to cast wheels is they are lighter than steel. Their strength varies depending on what their made of, such as aluminum or magnesium or a blend. The lug nuts are torqued different and made different. Under stress (very high of course) they either crack or break because they're also more brittle. There's a lot more tech involved, but I'm pretty much at my limit. Maybe someone else can chime in.
Edit: I've been corrected: Stock wheels are forged, lighter and stronger than cast, but have similar tendencies - they break or crack instead of bend or warp.

I hope they didn't install the wheels on the truck, spin them, see the warp and then blame it on the wheels. If so, they did something wrong. Even if they saw the warp on the balancer or something they most likely mounted the wheel to the machine wrong. Take them back and freak on the manager, make him verify that they didn't screw up anything. x8 on the cast wheels not 'warping'.

x2 on the staff I don't think most of them are well trained, I have bought some BFG A/T and they cant get them balanced to save my life. This is my 2nd set and no issues with the first ones and have had them on other vechicles. I was told by one of the kids working there that they are a rough riding off road tire and I needed to live with it. I will be going back and talking to the manager, 31" stock size tires on a tacoma should ride pretty decent. I have had some other issues with them with other tires I don't think I will be dealing with them anymore not woth the savings to me.

Costco wouldn't fix a leak in one of my previous tires "because they are more than 5 years old"

WTF? Do they really think I'm that stupid?

Costco Tires = :meh:

The way Costco sells tires is real funny! They WILL NOT under any circumstances mount any tire size other than the OEM size on the vehicle, but they will mount the tire on the wheel. They will not rotate or repair any tire over 5 years old. Their point is they don't want to be liable for any mishaps from non spec. or old tires. They said its a large corporation and they don't need lawsuits but I made a point that any other large tire retailer will do what ever you want, and they had no answer for me. I does suck putting your rig on jack stands and then lug your wheels down there but they do have decent prices.

Using Costco for tires is like using Walmart for steak. The best you can hope for is to not get e-coli.

Tacoma's are not hubcentric if I recall, often leading to improperly balanced tires if the shop doesn't know what they are doing.

It's not a good price if they don't provide the service necessary for your purchase to function properly. A good tire shop costs more because they provide expertise and service.

Your LX450 factory alloys are not cheap cast aluminum. They're forged aluminum which is much stronger than cast and much more expensive to make. I think you'd know if they were "warped" (what the heck does that mean, anyhow??) as the truck would have a lot of shimmy. I agree with the comments that the wheels were likely improperly mounted in the balancing machine. I'd have them looked at again after talking to the manager. The LTX tires are known for being extremely round and easy to balance so something's amiss here...

You're stock wheels are forged. they would not warped unless you took a trip to the sun. Costco has good priced tires but liability is their big issue. If they question the OEM size then the liability flag raises up. Buy the tires and mount them at a local tire shop. could save a couple bucks.

Good people are hard to find and I bet Costco's not alone in having to hire some really average at best tire monkeys and hope they dont screw up... which it sounds like they have in this case.

Personally, I had several bad experiences with the beloved Les Schwab near me and was let down enough to try Costco. Got my 4 stock Michelin's for over a $100 less then similar Toyos; treated really well by a very professional staff. They even called me back when I didn't show up for my reco'd 40-mile wheel retorque.

FWIW I'm impressed with at least one Costco here. Oh and my rig drives better than ever now.

Discount tire for the best price and customer sevice. MHO
