Anyone use the new style valve:

The new design allows independent positioning of the outlet.

Personally I like this type of drain better but only because there is no lever to get hit or lock ring to loose.

Have it on my wife-s 4Runner. It is fine, but still prefer the original.
 
agreed with @40Man . IMO, the fewer o-rings, etc the better. I have a "new" style on another car and it's fine, but not something I'd want to have as yet another potential point of failure.

Am I over thinking this? Possibly so.

I don’t think you’re overthinking it. O-rings are potential failure points, especially where one is used as a swivel.
