I recently picked up 2 Specter water cans. When I open the cap the inside is really smelly. Does anyone else have stinky water cans? Can this smell be cleared out?

What does it smell like?

I bought mine about a month or so before a trip and they smelled (and the water tasted) like plastic.

I rinsed it a few times and then filled with water and let it sit a few days to a week.

I tasted the water at the end of the soak and repeated the process until the water tasted clean. It took maybe three or so soaks.

I had no plastic taste after that.

Yes, that's the issue I have. It smells like funky plastic.

I think I will do the same thing with them.

Thanks!

You might throw some baking soda in the water. No idea if it would work just a thought I had.

Most/all water cans I've bought (never had specter) have smelled plasticy. As mentioned above, I've always used baking soda. Let it sit with water for a few days, rinse, repeat until its gone. Are these new cans or old cans?

Do your water cans look like this? :D

You can try wetting a paper towel with vanilla extract (just 6 drops or so) and putting it in there, screwing on the cap and let it sit for a few days.

Bleach and activated carbon alternating should do it

Been fighting this same issue with some RotoPax water carriers. Baking soda and then filled with water, left in the sun for 2-3 days mostly solves the problem. The activated charcoal is a good idea-I may get some from work and try that.

My Sceptor 20L water carrier still makes water taste like plastic despite 5 years of use.
