New Shoes....but they rub

Hey all,
** Apologies for the type o's. using my iPhone at work and feeling rushed like I should be work or something.

Finally got some new shoes for my '13. Went the "new hot chick" route and got the Falken Wildpeak AT3W in the 275/70/18
They completely change the look and feel of the rig, all positive except they rub on the KDSS when full cocked. The rub is min but just annoying.
Should I have gone with the 285/65?

Will the 285's rub as well??

I just want to say. I have a sickness I'm addicted to this forum and to spending money on my new rig. It's absolutely my dream vehicle.

Please help.

How hard are they rubbing? Is it just a little kiss?

There's 3mm spacers that you can readily get. Maybe that's all you'd need to address the rubbing.
 
That's a nice tire - I looked closely at it when I put on the Ridge Grapplers. FWIW, when I bought my 200 it had that same size Duratracs on it already, and they rubbed both on the frame and the KDSS. I switched to a taller and narrower tire to solve my issues, but I also switched rims to Rock Warriors. I've heard most people running 275/70/18 don't have any issues, but considering how badly mine rubbed I'm not sure how that's possible.
 
lifting the truck isn't going to address his KDSS rub - you need to push the wheels out a bit via a different wheel offset or a small wheel spacer

What do I get the small spacers? Don't want to change the stock set up to much. That's why I have asked if I should go to the 285/65.
 
motorsports out of PHX can make you anything you need..... I'd get 5mm all the way around

@RS6tofj80 I recently ordered and received my custom milled 20mm and 10 mm wheels spacers from motorsport tech and I discovered a hardware issue on the extended studs. The Knurl - yes its a real word / google it - its where the bolt fattens up toward the bolt head was a wee too small and would not seat properly. Lenny JR. looked for days to try and find a solution - great customer service by the way. End game is he's taking my 20mm spacers back and sending me the BORA's (same thickness) as a swap / the boras are a bolt on. The Knurl size on the new extended wheels studs is a fraction too small so yes you can order the CNC'd spacers in most any size but good luck sourcing hardware. Lenny said this was his first encounter with this. Said it works on the tundras but not the LC. we are talking like a 10,000's of an inch difference if I understood my alignment shop correctly. so close but no cigar!

Any tire gurus want to chime in on the specs. If I should just get the 285/65. ??

I would get spacers but wanted to keep it a stocker as long as possible. Need lots of camping/expedition equipment before I start upgrading the rig.

Agreed. 3mm spacers usually still allow the hub centric lip to engage. So these would probably be too thick.

That said, I've used spacers or non-hubcentric wheels in my sports cars at times. The lip doesn't carry any loads. It's simply there to center the wheel at install time. So if one is aware of this, it becomes a procedural thing to mount the wheels in a way that allows them to center on the lugs. Wheels should be fully mounted and torqued off the ground, with multiple passes in a star pattern. It's a trade-off for sure.
 
@willybeamin - agree that it sounds like there's an issue with the ones that are designed to use longer wheel studs in conjunction with, unlike the bolt-on's like the ones I'm runningin the rear & Spidertrax / slee etc. The spacers under 10MM that can be used without longer studs they can/di make as hubcentric - but I think 10mm is the limit you can go with and still get enough threads on the lugs.

that said in a perfect world I'd ditch spacers..... for sure the cheap ones are not worth the risk.

if you like the tires then this is what you do - go to your local home center and buy a bag of 3/4" washers - 3/4" is the diameter of the hole in the center. jack up your truck and chalk the wheels. take your driver side wheel off and start stacking washers on the wheel studs. if you're only going for a few mm of clearance from your kdss bar then a few washers will do - mic it for the exact thickness. put your wheel back on and turn to full lock - suggest having someone do that for you so you can look under your truck at the current contact or rub spot. This is an easy way to check to see how much clearance is key for your tire set up to not rub. or just go switch your tires out. due to your power steering you'll never get the truck to full lock without the engine running and crawling under with it running it is just dumb. put your smart phone on video mode, line it up with the area you want to view and use that as your eyes - its safer. good luck

I do like the tires a lot. I guess I should first just try to see if the 285/65/18 will Not rubb and go from there. Who knows maybe I will just end up paying the 500$ more for the KO2's. I really wish the Falkens came in the stock size.
 
My 34s (285/75R17) rub the same on the KDSS with +25 offset. It's only doing is at full lock while moving, because on the ground I see no signs of it touching but I see the same clean spot. I don't rub the UCA, but my wheels aren't stock. I don't worry about the KDSS rub since it's full lock and I'm going 5mph at best but hte UCA would concern me.
 
I just ordered a set of the wild peaks in 285-65-18 on a set of method wheels et25 so they should go on tomorrow.

Nice. They are great look tires. I was surprised how aggressive they looked. Noticed some noise at slow speed compared to stock. I am going with the same size on stock rims. What are the off set of the rim you are using compared to stock rims? Are you stock height? Any other mods?
