My new aluminium core rad for my HZJ77 showed up via courier today from ENS Industrial and it came out of the box looking like this. A bunch of the cooling fins are slightly deformed as the rad was very poorly packaged. Will this affect performance? Looking for opinions before I call to request a new one. I hate the prospect of having to wait another week or more 'till install. Any opinions?

Response from ENS is that so long as the veins aren't damaged, then basically this is as good as it's going to get. Apparently all the rads that they ship end up with some degree of deformation to the fins. They suggest I bend them back into place with a screwdriver and claim there will be no impairment of the rad's performance. Does this sound right?

Turns out it's the wrong rad anyways. No plumb for tranny cooler - my truck is an auto, which I made clear when I ordered the parts.

Anybody have a line on a new rad for a 1990 HZJ77 automatic transmission? Part number 16400-17160. ENS can't source it.

Don't knkow anything about ENS, but I have spent hours detailing radiators. Bugs, birds, rocks, sticks, all can cause this kind of damage. Whenever I have a radiator out, I detail the fins with a small pick, scribe, screwdriver. Easy but tedious to do. John

Hard to tell how bad it is from the picture, but I understand your frustation although it wouldn't hinder it's ability to cool your engine!

Hopefully things work out with returning it...

I would be pretty pissed off if they sent that to me. If they reckon the damage is harmless, they can take it back and try and sell it to someone else.(understanding its going back anyway)

It's not that hard to package radiators, can't remember any of the genuine isuzu radiators we get at work being damaged like that
