So I just bought a 1999 4runner. Black sport model, rear lockers. 120k miles. I feel like a made a great purchase!

I want to put a proper lift and tires on it with a great stance, with no rubbing. I think I want ideally an old man emu 3" lift. 285/70/16s with seqouia wheels. I've heard of using LC coils in the rear and getting bilstein shocks? Is this is good setup? And will this require a different gearing or lower the differential?

Any other recommendations?

Nice, congrats. May consider adjustable c/os for the front, look here or check out any of the great sponsers. The LC coils in the rear will be great for weight, but lift a lot (maybe too much) if you don't carry some weight back there.

Why 285/70s instead of 285/75s? Really limits what you can get and availability, and not any taller than a 265/75 which are cheaper and plentiful. If you go with a 33 or taller tire (285/75 or 255/85) gears are great, but not required. I ran with stock gears for a year before regearing.

Technically there is not diff drop (unless you go with a 6" that requires you to cut out the crossmembers to lower it), there's warm and fuzzy things marketed as such, but really only pivot the front of the diff down, and the rear up. If it makes you feel better they're easy to find as many places carry them.

Which wheels came on your 4rnr? IMO the stock wheels look and work great, but if you just have to have Sequoia wheels, by-all-means. Welcome, and keep us aprised of your build!

Well I definitely want a 3" OME lift, but from looking at the options, I can't tell what all I would need for a complete setup, no other thing needed...

Also ome shocks or bilstein?

Can I run 285/75/16s on stock wheels? And will they rub with that lift?

Soft or firm, your choice vendor and just stay with OME if that what you're going with.

The wheel size depends on which ones you have, they are each a little different and sometimes that tire is a little fat for the upper A-arm without different backspacing or a spacer. As far as will it rub? Only if you really wheel ;p So you may have to do some adjustments to the pinch weld or look at a 1" body lift. Lots of info in the 4rnr section on yotatech regarding specifics.

The 265/75/16's fit fine with no lift at all. I have that size in a Hercules Terra Trac A/T on my 99 4Runner Sport Edition and they don't rub at all.

Definitely check out Sonoran Steel. Steve knows 4Runners and his systems are quality. Friend of mine with a 2000 4Runner has the 7.2 system and is very pleased.

Also, regarding wheels, it would be a downgrade to go with Sequoia wheels (ugly, IMO). The 1st gen Sequoia wheels were the same as 01-04 Tacoma 16" wheels. Next gen is 17" wheels, but has ~5.5" backspacing, which is no good for your rig.

Nice buy! You'll love it!
