Hello everyone! Im a new proud owner of a 94 cruiser. I actually just bought it today and trying to fix some issues. At a stop when I give it gas it hesitates then revs up and goes. The dealer said it is probably an idle sensor, or one of the three sensors on the top of the motor. This is my first Landcruiser so its all new to me. Any advice would be awesome so I could get this thing running good. Thanks!

Is it actually the engine or a transmission thing? You said it "revs up and goes". Does the engine rev a little then the tranny engages?

I had the same problem, check the wiring harnes (injectors) that runs by the EGR, the harnes touches the EGR line and burns through the harness, this then causes a short in one of the injectors, if you plug it in to the computer it will tell you you have a missfire in one of the cylinders, easy fix, zap strap the harness off the egr pipe and re insulate with fire proof material, if the wire is totally gone you will need to replace it.. good luck

thanks for the resposes. It hesitates when I push the gas, as i keep pushing down it takes off. I dont think it is the transmission or engine, it shifts fine and idles fine

You've already done a basic tune-up and brought all scheduled maintenance items up to date?

Welcome! :)

Curtis

checked the wiring, no signs of burn through. The EGR is blue on top right? Thanks for the welcome Curtis. I just bought the Cruiser today, so I havent started anything yet. Bought it from a mom and pop dealer. 156,000 miles its a FJ I guess, not sure how to tell diff from fzj. Lots of maintence was performed within the past 2 years. Front axle seals, new powerstering pump, vacuum control system throttle body, heater and Air control unit, other smaller things. Differential oil change, engine oil, transfer case and full trans service. Any suggestions of where to start. Sensors maybe?

I guess I need to buy a service manual. it doesnt hesitate all the time. Actually I test drove it two times and it never happened. The dealer told me about. A co worker told him he thought it was one of the three sensors on top of the engine. I believe he said idle sensor?

Mine did this and now does it again, and both times it was throwing 02 codes. The first time I replaced the O2's and it fixed it, I guess I need to replace them again.

Is your check engine light on? You might try pulling the codes using the paperclip technique. It is documented in the FAQs I'm pretty sure.

I had the same problem after I replaced mine. I unplugged them and found the connectors to be corroded, i cleaned them and packed them with electrical grease and that has cured it.

I guess I should have stated these two instances were seperated by 4 years and approximately 80k miles. I also ran a can of seafoam through the intake which is when the O2's started to get unhappy again.
