Hello All,

I just picked up a 2000 LX470 with 118,000 on the odometer. Great truck and I'm loving it. I was searching around on the threads and see a lot of two battery installs, but wasn't able to find an answer to my question. I was able to trace the battery ground to a plug on the back of the engine block. Has anyone changed this out when moving over to 2 batteries? Also, what about a change out of the alternator wire as well? Anyone done this? Is there a picture tutorial.

Thanks in advance.

Any particular reason you are changing out the wiring? Connectors bad? Insulation damaged? Moving wires to different location?

If you're serious about the 2000 watts, you already know that caps are probably your best bet to beef up the short term supply needed by the bass. If the connections are in good shape, I think the OEM wiring to the ground and alternator are fine. The alternator can't put out that many amps (roughly 142) anyway!

Okay. Yes serious about amps. However, there is always efficiency and volume level that play a role. Will see what happens without upgrade (if I have dimming issues) as I can't see how to get to the pesky battery ground.

It is very common to upgrade the alternator to battery, frame ground and engine ground to something along the lines of 1/0 when adding a large stereo system. Many vehicles with EFI will run smoother by doing this wire upgrade even without the stereo due to more efficient path to ground.

It's called "big 3 mod".

Thanks. Yeah familiar with Big 3. Just need a bit of help on where the engine block ground runs to. I see a yellowish plug on the engine block but that's about as far as I get. Suppose I will have to do the investigating.

I haven't traced the ground and put my hands on it yet, but this picture may help you out.
