Mudders, I'm new to the land cruisers and am looking at an 01 100 series. Has about 150k miles on it. The dealership indicated that the timing belt has not been replaced and it and the water pump have been checked and required no replacement. I find the hard to believe. Can y'all give me some direction on timing belt and water pump service/replacement. When should it be done, how can I tell and what's the average cost.
Thanks!!

I also purchase my 01 LC this year and had to find out the timing belt requirement. 90,000 miles or 72 months is what toyota calls out. I have 70,000 on my 01 and am debating whether to replace or not. If you do the replacement yourself your looking at about 600.00 with water pump. Dealer is going to charge you about 1300.00. If you don't go with toyota parts you could probably do the job for about $400.00.

Remove the inspection cover on the driver's front side and take a look at it. Our 99 LX has 83K on it and the original belt looks very good and the waterpump isn't leaking, so...I'm putting this project on the back burner.

Replaced my 12 year old belt a few months ago. 76k miles and it had no signs of cracking. My weep hole on the waterpump was showing evidence of a small leak.

Thank for the input yall, now I know what to look for. I'm working on having them agree to do the service before purchase since the records/carfax show no indication of the work being performed. We'll see how that goes...
Either way I'll find a LC somewhere- look forward to picking everyones' brain on here, can't wait to be an actual LC owner.
Thanks again!

If you have any wrenching skills at all, I would use this as an opportunity to get them to drop the price of the rig for around $1200-$1500. Then get the parts from CruiserDan and do it yourself.

I just did the 90,000 mile service on my LX and it was truly a great learning experience. A couple tricky steps, but I am so glad I did it myself. I now know the front of my truck inside and out.
