I was in Spain in the summer of 2005 and went to some off-road and rally events. What we have here as the GX Lexus truck was already there as a Toyota LC. My question is when will this change take place here and what are peoples impressions of the GX.

Any info or oppinions would be appreciated.

The 120 series trucks 4runner/GX are also branded the LC Prado all over the world but I doubt they will do the same in NA because the 4runner name already has great exceptance.

I recommend a search for 120.

Yeah, LC Prado has been out since around 1990, first as a 70 series (different than the LC70 series), then 90 series, then 120 series. The overseas name is "Landcruiser Prado," but if Toyota sold it under that name, people buying the Landcruiser "100" here would feel like they were getting ripped off by paying $25K more for the same name. Here, Landcruiser is really known as the full-sized, long-wheel base landcruiser. In reality, "Landcruiser" refers to a family of offroad vehicles. Toyota has (in the past) built a short, medium, and long wheelbase landcruisers. Since the 1980's, the US has only gotten the long wheelbase models (LC60/80/100) under the landcruiesr name. From 2003+, the Lexus GX470 is really the LC Prado overseas (dressed up) and the 4runner and FJ Cruiser are also built on the same platform. As far as I know, the 4runner and hilux surf in the present body style are only sold in Japan and North America, mainly for name recognition. Bottom line is, overseas, "landcruiser" generally means reliable, offroad transportation while here, it means luxury SUV. So don't hold your breath hoping LC78 troopies w/ the 4.2L TD will show up next year. :)
